Lesson learnt for the day: Whenever in doubt call your MNC friends that too in modern cities like Bangalore and Pune. And voila one will have the world of wisdom before himself/herself. How I wish I knew such powers of MNCs before. :P
No, you can also call your working professional wife (or to be wife) and ask her :D

Oye! Band kar apni bakwaas, ghatiya isnaan. Bohot hua!
Teri Ma/Behen ye sab padhengi toh unka sirr sharm se jhuk jayega.
  • I am just wondering is there a full Gender sensitization course during FC in LBSNAA. If its not there, I guess we urgently need it.
Btw, I think we ll have 1-2 questions on gender issues in this year's Mains Ethics Paper :)
There is already much talk of gender sensitivity in papers. There is an urgent need of a course which would teach the "porn addicts" and "prostitution supporters" the other side of world. Because it is really necessary that such addicts don't become civil servants.

    @rrb14

    Here are few options :

    1. As somebody already mentioned, let her also attempt this exam (only if she is interested).

    2. There are some companies like JP Morgan Chase in both India and the US. If any of your companies has a branch in India, maintain good relations with your/her manager/boss and ask him for a job in Indian branch and remote access to 'work from home'. ( If none of your companies has a branch in India, change to those who have now itself so that you can ask for it after 2 years.)

    3. I read somewhere that if you choose AGMUT cadre, after few initial years, you can stay in Delhi. (please cross check, I am not sure.)

If she is flexible to choose other fields :

    1. Whatever cadre (backward states) you get, she can become a Professor in any college because she has good educational background. (If the area is very remote and there is no college in that village, she might have to commute to the town nearby.)

    2. Joining any non-profit organizations/NGOs who need volunteers in villages Or she could start her own awareness programmes of her interest and convenience. For ex. technology awareness for farmers.

P.S. : Ignore some irrelevant sh*t on this thread.
  • I disagree. IFS doesn't pose a problem if your spouse if working for an MNC/TNC. You will be posted in cities where you spouse can be posted by his/her firm as well, and when in India, you're majorly going to be in Delhi. Very li'l problem.

Life is not all good after 10 years of service in the IAS/IPS. What if you are allocated least developed states as your cadre? Not everyone comes on Central Deputation and even if they do, that's 7 years at the outside. Thereafter, back to the cadre for cooling off- a minimum of 3 years.

Central Services are better in this regard. An IRS officer, or an IA&AS officer can spend his entire career in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
But in IFS, there are raddi countries just like there are LD states :P similarly, in IRS n IAAS you have to move all around the country as per your postings, but in IAS and IPS you can still 'settle' in one city, for instance my entire family's lived in Chandigarh my whole life. The debate is endless, though I guess jahaan pyaar ho, vahaan sab adjust ho jata hai, chahe chaand par kyun na posting lag jaye :)

[ off topic ]Hello seniors , I had a query - what are the most preferred services in case you want to maintain a good work/life balance and spend quality with your parents , children and spouse( working ) ?

From all these 60 odd comments, let me just sum it up- all services give you an opprtunity to balance things in life provided there is a common understanding between the family members. Go for the service you really wish to work in, and everything will fall in line.. sooner or later.
  • @all : thats why i prefer a stringent and an eternal celibacy. All the great philosophers of the world viz, plato, aristotle, aquinas, shankaracharya, ramanujacharya, descartes, spinoza, leibnitz, locke, hume, kant, schopenhauer, all were celibates.

    P.s- my optional is philosophy . :-h :-h
  • I had another query and not sure if I should create a separate thread for something not so related to UPSC ... I am a part- time derivative trader ( futures and options ) consistently generating profits

Are civil servants allowed to invest / trade in stocks equity , currencies and commodities?

ps : Thank you Neanderthal bhai for your reply
