its not hindi vs english.. its csat vs witout csat..
engineers, managers and doctors have edge over others in csat they easily score 160+ in csat whereas others hardly get 130.basic quant questions like %, average,age related qstn which is cake walk for engineers is a night mare for arts student...they are poor in quant thts why they opted for arts not maths.when there is alrdy cmplsry english paper in mains then no need of three passage in english only in csat. on basic of civil service result we can not predict that a topper will be a good administrator..if this was case thn what is need of training?. as name suggests civil service recruit genralist not specialist. so there shld be equal opportunity at all level for every citizen of india. p.s. i am shocked how a civil aspirant can hate hindi which is our national language.
Actually, speaking in Hindi is no issue in the interview, even if your chosen medium is English. The board is 'the human face' of the UPSC, and they are very much sensitive about such matters. Koi mispronounciation yan brake lag jane se board marks nahi katenge.However, the translated passages are being prepared by some silly person who just runs them through Google Translate. If they want to correct something, correct this.
While I do feel that these protestors suffer from largely imaginary prejudices, let us not rubbish them off completely. They have some legitimate demands as well. The Hindi passages, for example, are often literal translations of the corresponding English passage and much of the crux of the passage is lost in translation. This renders answering inference based question difficult. Unfortunately in their largely absurd demands, the genuine grievances lose out.
+1 have you guys seen some passages of hindi?even people with good knowledge of hindi will have difficulty understanding it in one go or twice reading like @sniper said they are literal translations of english passage hence essence of passage is lost and in csat time is of the essence
This really seems to be the real issue. How on earth can someone do RC from an incomprehensible passage? It's just sloppy paper settings.
Of course, I've always been in favour of a synthetic "Indian auxiliary language "created by fusing all the major Indian languages - quite like Esperanto for us desis. But I know, nobody would listen to my mind-blowing suggestion.
Pattern has been deliberately made suitable for Engineering background n MBA students ...where were these people before 2010 ?? Is there no difference between a manager in d corporate sector n a bureaucrat who has 2 work in d grassroot level ? How do u show ur critical reasoning ability in a 10 marks ans in mains ? Sadly , most of d toppers are referring only 2 coaching material....time 4 introspection !!

UPSC decides what they want and examining people based on that. Here people are going to the extent of determining the questions themselves. bhakksala!!
If guys from South India would have protested, it would have been understandable. As they tell, already hindi translations are given for Hindi guys making exam/CSAT easier for them. People from Tamil Nadu, etc could not read Hindi(majority). NB: I am from Odisha. Moreover, for Hindi medium students, Hindi translations are given apart from English-so double advantage. Then, why this majority imposition on the rest of nation? Why all these special favors? Already Hindi language is given in CSAT papers(and not odiya, telgu, or tamil or bengali). But, we odiya, bengali, tamil and telgu are not protesting despite huge setbacks. Majority of people coming from my state Odisha have read from vernacular/odia medium schools have similar or even less English language knowledge than the people from North India(esp UP, bihar). And, north Indian hindi-speaking people already have Hindi translations for them!! So, why are they/you complaining? But, we people quietly accept. And, we do not complain too. We try to improve our English language skills in the 1 year by practicing. Despite having setbacks in reading Hindi and manage with the half-learnt English, we still do our best without complaining and am happy that this time 9 people from Odisha have qualified in the final list!
1 year is enough a time to have a decent hold over the language. If we we could do it, there is no reason why people from the Hindi heartland(despite the advantage of translations in Hindi) cannot do the same.
I am not contesting the inclusion of Hindi language in CSAT! Let our hindi-speaking brothers have the advnatage. Moreover, its our national language too. But, just remember that you are in a much more comfortable situation and your protests are simply laughable and invalid!! Please think over it-all my Hindi-speaking brothers!

only 43 percent speak hindi. rural non-hindi aspirants are the worst sufferers. some have taken up the challenge to meet the demands of this exam. while many think this exam is not meant for them.
to ensure no double-advantage, upsc should stop printing question papers of prelims and mains in double language. for some minor economic savings they are being unfair as it tilts the balance against all non-hindi aspirants in understanding the question.
to those who opt to write answers in regional language in mains, upsc should provide questions too in regional language.
ideally upsc should provide questions in prelims too in regional language if questions are available in hindi.
One more suggestion to the UPSC - if a person has cleared upto mains or interview, link it to some other exams too.For example, such candidates can get extra points in IB exams. This 'all or nothing' setup is exerting such huge pressure on everyone who sits for this exam, and that's why people want attempts upto infinity. There is a 'just one more attempt and I'll make up for the years I wasted in prep' mentality.
