  • You are an upright young IPS officer in an area with rigid patriarchal system.
The crime against women in this area are rampant but no voice is ever raised. Even if it is raised, it is hushed very quickly. In a recent public function u met a girl, who had topped her college exams and stood first in whole state. She carried on her studies despite heavy odds and saw u as her role model and wanted to serve the nation just like u. U secretly admired her and was falling for her. Few days later u got the news that a girl has been brutally sexually assaulted and has been killed. When u go there, u find it to b the same girl, whom u love...
What will be your course of action in this highly emotional case?
Will u take matter in ur own hands and punish the culprits, as Public anger is against the culprits?
What will u do, so that what happened to that girl, doesn't happen to any girl again?
    (250 words)
Do tell me, if this case study was extreme, give ur views.

It is like bollywood case study :open_mouth: any way

    1. Since it is a special reference case ( which are supervised by DSP or sp) I will ensure that emotionalal affection dont become a weakness in the investgation by blurring the facts.

2 Blurred facts will make case weaker at the Judiciary. Hence Culprits can get Judicial relief.

    3. Emotional affection with the girl should be used in Proper way.It should give me a dedication to unearth true facts and foresnic evidence, proper charge sheet. It should give me the courage to avoid any possible political and social pressure.
    4. In this way Emotional Management will set the deterrence in the society. Knee jerk reaction under the emotional flow will result in myself turning against law.
    5. It will result in embarrsment of police and Government. Some culprits will escape. Create a dangerous system of Mob Justice. Which in long run will do more harm than good.

Do tell me, if this case study was extreme, give ur views.
This case study involves following vital aspects of ethical human behavior:
    1. Love and affection
    2. Vengenance
    3. Dutifulness
    4. Integrity
    5. Responsibility towards marginalized section of society (in this case, Women).

My possible immediate course of action would be following:

I may feel sad about sudden demise of a young bright girl who could have done well in her career and thereby, contributed significantly to society's growth and prosperity. However, I would not let this emotional turmoil to tamper with my work ethics. I, as in any other regular case, would strictly adhere to my integrity and responsibility.

My first action would be to assess the situation thoroughly with the help of my subordinates. I would make sure no evidence is left behind as 'knee-jerk' reaction in this case involving an element of emotional quotient. I would also ensure all rules are followed in strict adherence to its spirit and culprits are booked as per the laws given in the rule- book. I would also reach out to the elders and responsible local citizens and consult them as per requirement of the case. I would also make them to have trust on the criminal justice system and convinced them that no guilty would escape the fair justice system.

My future course of action so that repetition of such cases do not occur again in my jurisdiction area:
    1. Reach out to public and aware them about increasing 'gender equality' as a new reality of the world. I may also instruct my department to organise a seminar inviting any famous girl celebrity to make them understand about potential of girls through living example.
    2. Increase surveillance for safety of girls: I would instruct local police authorities to increase their surveillance and take special care of girls and women.
    3. Encouraging girls to come forward and report any such act which may have been troubling them .
    4. Making sure fair presence of female gender police personnel in each police station with a special window for women safety etc.
