Metro Stations Shut 'Indefinitely' as UPSC aspirants hold protest

  • While I do feel that these protestors suffer from largely imaginary prejudices, let us not rubbish them off completely. They have some legitimate demands as well. The Hindi passages, for example, are often literal translations of the corresponding English passage and much of the crux of the passage is lost in translation. This renders answering inference based question difficult. Unfortunately in their largely absurd demands, the genuine grievances lose out.

have you guys seen some passages of hindi?even people with good knowledge of hindi will have difficulty understanding it in one go or twice reading
like @sniper said they are literal translations of english passage hence essence of passage is lost and in csat time is of the essence
This really seems to be the real issue. How on earth can someone do RC from an incomprehensible passage? It's just sloppy paper settings.

this is the basic problem that hindi medium aspirants have been worried for. @all i guess we all have the last two years CSAT paper with us, so please do read the Hindi version of the paper and try to understand the passage. I guess then people can come to realize how incomprehensible those easy English passages are!
  • @Eddy

I agree, i have read those literal computerized translation. They r horrific, even with a decent hindi i am not able to fully grab the meaning of the paragraphs and its not just that, the words used sometimes are so cult that you won't even find them in common dictionaries. Simple passage of x std becomes literary . its hard to even understand that.

That point of their's is valid.
There is another point of them i like, In last years paper (mains ) there were difference in the eng and hindi version of the question. as the eng version asked for something different from hindi translation. totally destroying the meaning of the question.

just to substantiate your point take a look at this example - Question no 8 from Paper-3 = in English version it is asking to "establish a relationship between land reforms, agriculture productivity and elimination of poverty in the Indian economy." While in Hindi version it is asking to establish a relationship between development in Indian economy, agricultural production and poverty elimination"
  • it is the time to speak loudly no silence please
from wednesday onwards in delhi several upsc aspirants protest against csat paper. they pointed out hindi translation of question papers. why people belongs to remaining 19 languages shut up their voices...why dont you guys demanding question papers in remaining 19 languages(exception is there some languages have devanagari as common). in this technologically advanced times why upsc did not set the papers in all 21 languges...is it impossible....no adays rrb,ssc exams were also conducting in regional languages...instead of lakhs of vernacular medium aspirants suffering why upsc upsc recruiting 21 languages translators permanently...

to solve the problems of vernacular medium aspirants each and every state public service commission should mould their syllabus according to upsc syllabi. then respected states coachingwala, publishers will ready to publish books in regional languages. and regional news papers also shift their trends. should maintain standards of national dailies.

regional medium aspirants should come out and fight against injustice. write articles on upsc injustice practices in respective regional news papers . should give memorandum on upsc injustice practices to politicians(mp,mla, ministers, political boss)real victims of upsc exams were 19 languages(except english, hindi) aspirants. so make your voice loudly against injustice. dont be silent
  • sad to see so much bickering among future administrators. hypocrites.
