I read somewhere else that this is not a training centre but a "regional centre", although I'm not sure what it means. Anyhow, the training for first 3 years will be in Hyderabad for AP Greyhounds
@somestuff - What exactly do u mean by requirements of a new state capital?
Are you asking if there is a need for such a huge size and concentrated admininstrative capital or in general factors to be considered in while building a new capital?
Let me write some 1. Minimal loss of productive land 2. Price of land to be acquired 3. Proximity to major trading centres 4. Proximity to ports 5. Presence of railway lines and major railway station 6. Presence of national highways 7. Availability of water 8. Proximity to sources of power 9. Scope for future expansion 10. Use of materials in buildings that reduce 'urban heat island' phenomenon 11. Well laid out roads/sewers/drainage
@somestuff - You have picked up good number of points but i dont think all of them are available and many of them are being created to facilitate growth - We can summarise ur points into what we can think of in general for a ' Smart City'
But from the nature of the topic i think we can take it further to Opportunities and Challenges Opportunities 1. We need a planned urban area with focus on regional growth - I think that is being done here by creating 8 urban plans and creating sectoral hubs for different areas such as Guntur- food processing, Vijayawada - Trade etc and various corridors in the state. 2. Creating such a forward plan will attract more private players to be part of the process
Challenges 1. Price speculations and unrealistic real estate sector - causing suicides etc - eg - Frequently changing the sites - earlier Mangalagiri and now Thuluru and now naming it Amaravati ? - That must be affecting land prices and parties involved 2. Fertile land and significant portion of irrigated land being lost 3. Why arent we breaking free from the age old idea of creating a centralised world class capital which might become resource stressed in a few years? - Sivaramkrishna committee - clearly said we should not do the same mistake now 4. Isn't the plan top down? Are public views and consultation being considered or is it just being made in Singapore? Will we be doing the same mistakes as it was with Hyderabad?
@mdkasif001 That was going to be my next question. To extend it further, what steps are being taken and what steps should be taken to deal with these challenges?
Is Nalgonda a safe home for SEMI activists? Is semi planning a major destruction in hyderabad making Nalgonda as base??? Is it a failure of state and central intelligence forces to track the movements of semi activists??

At first I was confused with SEMI, then realized it might be a typo and it is actually SIMI. Is there any new organization called SEMI?
