@diplomatically27 I did join a coaching institute for GS but I didn't like the way they taught most of the things there. So I ended up not even attending 25 percent of the classes and did it on my own. And for my optional i.e. Pub Ad I never took any coaching whatsoever. Frankly speaking I didn't have enough time to go for all the coachings & also study on my own as I started studying only 9 months before mains. Its totally your & your circumstances' call.
And about managing time I guess once you've quit your job you have all the time in the world to think about it and manage it in the best way possible.
The family pressure thing and unemployment I guess varies from individual to individual. Personally, before mains I never thought & cared about these things as everything else seemed so god damn trivial. But now, I am finding it difficult to concentrate (sometimes I don't even finish the newspaper of the day) and my parents nag me a lot on top of it. (I guess everyone who lives with their parents faces this.. :-P). But I guess we've got to take it in our stride. Sometimes negativity does grip me regarding the employment thing I must confess but again whats worth the price is always worth a fight.
this age, unemployment, family pressure etc. got me pretty emotionally worked up when I saw this thread & wrote a big post on the first page (which no one responded to except for the football part) and here I am again. :-P
how do you cope up with family pressure and unemployment Just curious
I am not sure of anyone else but I've observed that in my mind right now, civil services seems the only path to salvation; nothing, and nothing else will absolve my being. This is probably what someone would call the zenith of Maslow's pyramid. (Only that if I achieve it, I am going to aspire for more)
I find that when faced with any doubt - a fatter pay package, MBA from a premier B-school, post grad from some American university or even the charm of Mum's food - everything vanishes in front of this spirit!
@bluepensioner I understood brother! In my case it is altogether a different story. Coming from a remote place, without any aim until my 20s, I was just a passing cloud. No one to advice or even rebuke my life had all the chances to become a sad melody. From my teen years until my grads, whatever I did ended up in disasters. So I could even hear a thousand clamoring of ‘You are a loser!!!!”All the time. My circumstances were like that. Now I can understand the agony of a young boy who was made fun for not knowing enough English, not having enough money, and a thousand things. So I started to stand up on my feet only in my 20s. I wrote my prelims last year during a fairytale journey last year and I met many guys on that day. I wrote my exam in that midsummer heat in a dusty cabin with guys younger than me and I didn’t even know what that exam meant. But one guy told me about that procedure and I went back home with a dream. Since june I have been sitting in my room, with my shadow as my companion. My parents now support me but I have no coaching or whatever. I am so sorry for this weird, long post but I just wanted to convey how important this exam is for me. It is a fight..Seriously I know we all would be having difficulties in different ways but what unites all of us is our dream… I will pray for all of you Wishing you good luck

I am curious about How many of you study without coaching how do you manage your time, and how do you cope up with family pressure and unemployment
Just curious
Regarding studies , its just keep going . Thats what I said earlier , really enjoying experimenting with my life ..

And - I took tution in 2012. Only F+ test series this time around.
UPSC has messed up my "Need-Hierarchy" pyramid.
The higher needs (mental, emotional, creativity) are pretty much satiated but the lower needs (money, employment) are still eluding.
waise thanks to the person who created this thread,..at least now i know am not alone feeling this 27+syndrome......
