I turned 28 last year and 2013 was my first attempt. Giving Mains,2013 was the best experience that I had in my whole life.
Still struggling with my job and study, bogged down sometimes by harsh realities of life and sometimes do self introspect about why I am so discontent even after earning decent salary and a comfortable life. May be it is a sign of soon approaching 30s blues!! ..
I know 2014 would be my last attempt to redeem myself and get out of this vicious cycle of self pity and dissatisfaction but I must say preparing for Civils gives you a lot of perspectives about people and life. Whether I would succeed or not, that's another question but I would always be proud that I went through a beautiful journey of UPSC preparation which gave a new meaning to my struggle with my apprehensions, fear, uncertainties, society, profession and family.
It has been really a roller coaster ride. Some Highs and Lows !!
Helo mates, i turned 26 this January ( and its already feel like 30 ) I done my B.Architecture in May 2011 from then on it just UPSC for me. Didn't joined any job for wholeheartedly preparation. I live in Kullu (the famous tourist place :P) so coaching is absent, i prepared from home and hoping to make in the final cut. To diplomatically27- brother don't lose hope every year several non coaching/self study guys clear this exam & the new pattern is also helpful for the home learners. Best of luck to all who wrote mains this year, YNWA !
@aashu_delhi haha typical student life of an architect It was a necessity back in the days with long nights before submissions. I don't know how else you can be sane with those repeated changes by your teacher while you have to submit it on time ! as we used to say - rum bhulaye gum
Pardon me if anyone feels offended by the term Rum & id OldMonk !

Let me pour my heart out. I am about 27 and a half years old now :-w . I have done MBA, after that worked for less than a year and then quit my job just before i was going to be confirmed by my company with an official designation instead of an MT. Then went back to my parents and prepared for prelims. Luckily cleared it and wrote the Mains. It didnt go that well, but when i was writing it, thought i was doing pretty well for a first timer without coaching. Lets see what the results have in store for me. So how does it feel being 27+?
Its a mixed bag. when I think over the things i have learnt about, i feel happy that i have gained knowledge which i probably might not have even bothered about while being a non UPSC aspirant. when i think about monday morning blues, the bosses rant, etc, i feel lucky to have escaped it atleast for the time being. I have come to appreciate my parents support more than i did when i was doing my mba or my job. I was lucky as my father vehemently stopped me from taking up a hefty education loan for my MBA ( becoz he hates Loans or being in debt ) But when i think over the fact that my friends have been earning money and supporting their parents or family, instead of being a liability on them, it makes me feel sad. In recent months whenever the month end approaches, i feel somewhat sad not finding my bank account being credited with a decent amount of money as it used to. when i find my friends getting engaged or married to beautiful girls (beautiful because in the pics they all look beautiful), i feel when i find that the girl i liked is dating someone else, and if i had been working maybe i cud have asked her out or even asked my mom to initiate talks with her family for an alliance (coz my mom knows her family very well) my heart feels =((
But then i suddenly realise this is what life is all about, and all these things will shape my destiny. Whenever life has put me in dilemma and thrown problems at me i have come out stronger, and so will i in future too. I dont know whether i'll succeed in my endeavour of UPSC or not, but i'll come out stronger with more knowledge and with the realisation about who really are my well wishers and true friends and who just pretend to be. I will be more patient than i am today because one thing UPSC teaches is patience. I will appreciate more things in my life than i did before.
Always remember "This too shall pass", whether its the good times or the bad times. So all in all its lose some but win more situation.
आख़िर बुजुर्गों ने कहा है की कठिनाइयों को पहले ही झेल लोगे तो आगे की जिंदगी आसान हो जाती है.
So be positive and look out at the positive side of life.
