My Father is an army officer from Punjab, my mother is from Kerala, and my sister-in-law is a Bengali. The only language in which we all can have a meaningful conversation is English. I can speak a bit of Malayalam, but I can’t read or write it. My mother tried to teach it to me, but gave up when I couldn’t progress much. I can completely understand how difficult it would be for the people of South India, where languages are of Dravidian origin, to be able to learn to read and write Hindi. English is the only option. So when you argue that Hindi is representative of everything Indian, you are grossly mistaken. I have lived almost all over India... Rajasthan, Punjab, J&K, WB, Sikkim, North East..... And I can bet I have a better understanding of the Idea of India than you, and this Idea is not limited only to Hindi and certainly includes English.
There is false notion created by some people of limited understanding that Hindi is our National language and I remember you subscribe to the same notion, you mentioned it in this very forum. Time to correct your false notion, else you and people of your ilk will be left far behind in a progressing India.
ओ हिन्दी के उद्धारको! अगर ब्रिटिश विरासत से इतनी नफ़रत है तो पहले क्रिकेट खेलना और देखना बंद करो, फिर देश भक्ति की बात करना!
o angreji ke sipahi agar tumhe british virashat itna hi pasand hai to tum pahle humare kishanon ke dwara ugaye ann ko roti chawal dal sabji ko khana tyag do..aur pani ki jagah roll paper use karo..phir hamse bat karna..
From Mod : You dont need to be an Indian to respect people , just being human would do it . You are blatantly violating forum rules and testing our patience . So cut short your blunders and behave sagaciously .
Simple question to u. Who is the father of indian civil services?
Even Britisher used to learn hindi when they came here. They learned the hindi and ruled use .They never protested "ke hum too english hee bolege"
You know why britishers ruled us because they were adaptable and were not like us.You have to understand what is the need of the hour.We on the other hand were too narrow minded and rigid and were thinking only about our state or our language.
Learn English not to become a slave of England rather than learn it,master it and rule them like they ruled us.This way also u can show ur real desh bhakti.
I hope u will understand me ,i am not against u but donot u think ur demand is similar to M Jinnaha's demand of separate nation.Look at the conditions of pakistan now.Ambedkar also demanded separate nation but he was more intelligent and visionary than Jinnah by accepting reservation for his people. Because he knew when u start dividing there is no end to it.So act like Baba Saheb and not like Jinnah.
"Sword only cuts ,if u have to stitch a cloth u need a small needle not a big sword."
So my request to u ,please donot create this english hindi divide. If u want to protest ,u can carry on ,but don't bring hindi-english divide unnecessarily. This will help no one.
@vkk Sir ji.... Ambedkar never demanded seperate nation. He had demanded seperate electorates. British had offered him seperate nation with him as a President, but he denied in the National interest. He even opposed the idea of Pakistan n said that Pakistan would regret it in future. He wrote a seperate book over it titled "Thoughts on Pakistan" .
@saagar_14 Bhai what u said is right but what i said is also right. But this is not the thread to discuss because it will be out of the present context. For now study for PT, Best of luck.
What I find ironic here is people calling Hindi medium students "rattu tota" and at the same time against scrapping of Paper-2.
If any of you have had a look at last few years GS papers, you would realize that no rattu tota can clear the exam. Prelims GS (since the last few years) is totally conceptual and only those who have conceptual clarity can hope to score 110-120. So why are you guys fearing a merit list drawn up solely on GS? Lets be honest to yourself. Paper-2 helps many here sail through Prelims and without it they wouldn't rank anywhere in the merit list. Your interests are as biased as those who you rubbish off as 'Rattu Totas", "Uncles", "Hindi chauvinists".
Qualities like aptitude and ethics can not be quantified through a written exam. Solving a few reasoning questions does not ensure you have the right aptitude, just like scoring 120 in Ethics will not ensure honesty in service. Further, Civil Services is an exam that primarily tests your General Awareness (1000 marks GS+250 marks Essay). It only makes sense then to have the same criteria apply to Prelims - if not completely then as the deciding factor. It makes no sense whatsoever that a guy scoring 120+120 does not get through while another scoring 61+180 does. It is the latter that makes the competition in Mains uneven - his poor GS being shielded by Aptitude in Prelims now has no cover.
To balance both sides it makes sense to either go back to the rumoured pattern earlier this year - 300 marks single paper with 200 weightage for GS and 100 for Aptitude or have a high enough cut-off for GS Paper 1 - something in the range of 75-80 (if the difficulty level is the same as 2013).
The home minister's un-translated Hindi speech left foreign officials baffled, but home ministry officials saw nothing untoward. Their view? Foreign officials working in India are expected to understand Hindi.
So dear sir, why you are recruiting Hindi Medium guys for IFS....they should also know atleast X level english....A person(20 + age) who can't learn X level english in India(Totally Service based country).....why?
