What are the sources to be covered for ecology and environment- for Prelims and Mains point of view? Are we supposed to read Shankrias book on environment cover to cover?

As someone pointed out here that for prelims apart from Standard books and newspaper (including current affairs magazine) something more needs to be read... Can anyone please pin point what are those fringe areas/ topics that needs extra reading...
I will suggest reading Paramount ssc cgl notes (handwritten class notes especially in hindi if u can read bilingually) + Lucent gk book (ancient+medieval+biology portion only). Each year upsc asking 2 3 highly factual stuff which most people leave .. if u get those correct that's pure edge.. cumulatively I found those high on input vs output ratio.. also once read and revised they will benefit u in all the other exams of country in future.. just a personal opinion !
Environment k lie ncerts(chem,bio) karne ki zarurt hai ya shankar will suffice?
Just glance over once for topic understanding.. Otherwise shanker is good enough. Better to read ias4sure and forum or shanker environment capsule/ pdf which come just before prelims each year (2017/2018 leke pd daalo or notes bna k rkh lo.. next will be 80% same) .. I feel that will benefit u more in cost benefits term !

Also vision ki test series k answers lelo 2 3 saal k.. unme se is topic se related jo bhi questions cum model answers ho wo nikal k compile krlo ek jagah hard copy m.. that's more than sufficient IMO !
