  • @driftedpath ....bhai agar aapne mbbs khud seat nikaalke ki hai...then u can easily crack pg in 7-8 months with proper guidance and coaching...but dont choose any surgical branch at this point of life...just an advice..
Kyu bhai? Ye surgical branch m kya jhol ho gya ab?
  • bhai kaam nai sikhaate surgical branches mein...specially MS general surgery...Also it takes lot of time to get established...
  • In Ias..lot depends on posting and cadre...IAS only as a district magistrate is better than DM doctor.... but that is only for 3-4 years...also many honest IAS get only 1-2 years to serve as DM..An Ias sitting at secretariat is just a glorified clerk..just signing the files or following orders of political boss..No decision making...
bhai par IAS toh IAS hi hota hai.......the so called glorified clerk kisi bhi department mein jaakar revolution laa sakta hai.
i mean ashok khemka sir has been transferred umpteen number of times but he was able to unmask many high level politicians and industrialists..........and fyi, he has never been on DM posting in his entire career (i once saw his executive record sheet)
Bhai after having myriad of experiences what I feel now is that its futile to compare jobs .You cant compare apple with oranges . Everything ultimately boils to personal satisfaction and individual 's goals and desires . For someone excise inspector is a dream job while many resign it to prepare for IAS. No job is good or bad . Every job is important . Society is build upon that . Even if bus drivers go on strike millions get stranded and it jolts the entire city . IAS is a great job but its a hard nut to crack .

Haan bhai seat kud se he niakli te . Your advice is well founded. Doing surgery after such a long gap is not advisable... its not a terminal branch and will require super specialisation which will again take 3-4 years . I will prefer terminal branch like radio or ortho . I had left pedia seat to prepare for upsc .
Because of increase in seats radio , ortho milna pehle jaisa tough nahi ab. last year 1800 rank pe bi Agra me ortho mila ta in UR category .
  • bhai ortho is also a surgical branch..it takes 7-8 years to get establised....I have seen my batchmates...radio is a very boring and dull branch in my opinion..u may not get satisfaction...Go for medicine if u can aim for DM...Else paeds and skin are the best options...But if u have passion for a particular branch, then forget everything..Go for ur passion...

bhai koshish karna delhi mein selection ki.........salary is around 80k per month + life is cool in delhi
  • @driftedpath bhai. State pcs me tabhi hai jab you have lost all interest in medical practice. Getting a good rank in PG is extremely difficult nowadays but you're assured of a seat after serious effort of one or two years. The same time would be consumed by a state pcs in declaring mains results only. Even then you're not assured of SDM. Rest jobs in state pcs are not worth for a central government group A servant. You don't even require preparation for state pcs. I say focus on PG if you're that unsatisfied with your current job. But I still feel you should stick to the current job, develop some hobby, join a public health NGO, seek central deputation or earn a degree in public administration sponsored by government and improve your job profile for policy making positions. Easier said than done but certainly worth a try.
Bhai thanks for your honest advice . I have dropped the idea of UPPCS .I will continue my job and focus on PG preparation. Workload is very less so I can easily prepare .Weekend classes are also available for pg. I always had interest in medical field. Only thing for which I can leave it now is IAS . But I have accepted my fate in UPSC .

I tried to develop other interests , hobbies but they didn't satisfy me. I want to do something more meaningful . Saving few lives and bringing smile to faces will bring satisfaction and happiness.

So its pg for me now . PG seats have increased , so chances are good there.

Thanks again bro and all the very best for interview :)
All the very best. It's really futile to compare jobs especially at the higher echelons like IAS, group A service or medical field. I am sure you would do well in medical field too.
  • i would have never applied for upsc if i were a doctor. an orthopedic did knee arthroscopy on my father in narayana hrudayalaya and relieved his pain. i saw a god in him. also saw a cardiologist saving the life of a mother whose son fell to feets of the doctor to thank him....with each surgery the doctor was becoming so energetic and enthusiastic. Trust me a doctor has so much respect in society infact more than a ias officer. It is in backward states of cow belt that ias commands respect . ATB for all u wonderful doctors.
  • Chill maaro dosto. Sab bakwas hai. Paisa Kamao doctori mai aur khush raho.

Prestige and position of ias is already down. Just that people don't know about it yet. Perception abhi theek hai jo ki dowry market se pata chal jata hai.

But fact of the matter is that a collector is not entitled to even a peon officially at his residence. Senior residents earn more salary in Delhi compared to what an ias officer earns after 10years of service.

    Power position sab dikhawa hai.

Less than 10% of the principle secretaries I met wanted their kids to become ias. Most of them have used their contacts and got them admitted abroad. They have made money, established connections. Now, they have not got any stakes left in the system except for getting their daughters married to young officers and new officers like us will be left high and dry in coming years.

That's the reality my friends. Nuisance power that ias ips posses will steadily go down in coming years. Public will soon realise it and then there will be nothing left
  • And HODs and senior doctors beelining when secretary or commisioner health comes to the college will also end soon.
Many more of the colleges will open in private sector. Already good doctors are leaving even aiims and pgi to join medantas and Gangarams. Monopoly of govt medical colleges over research is also over.

I can predict downfall of ias over the next 15 years and I can see my future and it scares me
