MEDICAL SCIENCE OPTIONAL PERFORMANCE

Mains results are out.
Congratulations to those who cleared it.
Mention whether you cleared or not and the reason thereafter.
There are a lot of us who after failing continuously are in dilemma of what to do next. Going for PG preparation alone does not seem sustainable if attempts are left. Doing both simultaneously is not possible.
So let's come out and draw a strategy together on which we can work.
5th attempt
Prelims score- 234/116/133/108/?
Mains score-662/667/782/785
«134

  • Despite being easy question there are very few guys around me who cleared( one in four).
    So what went wrong?
It's true that bad performance in optional cannot make you out of holy PDF. When one fail in mains it has to be both, GS and optional.
    5th attempt
    Prelims score- 234/116/133/108/?
    Mains score-662/667/782/785
  • Out with MS
    Fifth Attempt
Made to the final list twice earlier
    Already in service

This time what went wrong i have no clue. MS was not that tough this time.
All those with 3 attempts exhausted, please start considering PG as an option or maybe CMS.

This exam is very unpredictable and even if you make it to any Grp A service except maybe IRS IT its a total waste.
  • looks like very few result this time.

  • Me, @MisfitMedico @anandmamc and some others are in as well. All of us are in service. Performance was average despite this year being an easy paper. Let's see how it pans out in the final list. I am worried about an year like 2016 where so few of us were in the final list.

So let's come out and draw a strategy together on which we can work.

Last year I went for pg preparation before final result. Studied my ass off for two months but was nowhere near optimum level. That's when I realised pg requires specialised preparation for at least one year. If you are feeling dejected right now, I say start your pg preparation right now. Batches have already started. Focus for one month on CMS and try to get in the list. Then achieve even a moderate rank and opt for cool pg branches and then prepare.
  • I have got an intuition that this year paper 1 and 3 of gs were extremely decisive.

Yeah I am thinking of going back for PG prep.. atleast there is a guarantee that after putting effort one can get through. After failing in 4th mains continuously I have become clueless to what and how to work for the mains exam.

Seems they are butchering medical sciences especially after 2014 . It was easy to score before 2014.
Already in service but not satisfied at all. Now I think only IAS or IPS can satisfy me nothing less. Mains went well especially optional. I predicted almost 80% questions. I was very hopeful . Don't know what went went wrong . Totally agree with @GKS08 . Start preparing for pg after 3 attempts . No need to waste time. I am also planning to start pg preparation . Getting 2 digit rank with medical sciences now seems a long shot for me . Crossing 300 with MS is now very difficult .
  • Which service bro @driftedpath

    Agree bro ...

Indian Information Services - Assistant director -All india Radio
Before that got in Railway Protection Force and IOFS
Its was better if I was never selected . This was my 4th mains and best prepared one . Couldn't even qualify mains.
Randomness is there and hard to deny . Did everything- test ,notes ,optional ,essay ... But clean bowled .
My life is fucked up now. All my batchmates are now well settled , making name fame and money . and here I am - telecasting programmes on goddamn AIR which one listens to in time of FM. Cherry on the topping is that i resigned my pedia seat for UPSC.
But planning to start preparing for pg again otherwise i will regret my whole life .

Thanx for the insights. I am considering for going back to PG prep. Atleast there is an assured seat after hardwork.

Bhai.one unsolicited advice. Even medical field is extreme difficult nowadays. Even after doing PG you would be searching for jobs in government sector. Please reconsider all options. Assistant director atleast has a peaceful life.

I am from Indian Postal Service 2014 batch got that in the very first attempt at very young age despite scoring a historic low of 53 in essay.
Then over the years improved the rank to my best of 400’s last year but nothing changed as IRS CnCE seats were reduced to half and i was not in a position to quit my present service and move to another because of the stupid seniority i have here.

The service is like an average day job nothing compared to the work of a medico and so are other services. So always keep a plan B ready. Even if you are in service. I have mine ready but that comes into action maybe after 5-7 yrs.
So be prepared for anything all the time. Thats the way to go, wherever you are in service or back to medicine.

Thanks bhai for your advice . Baat sahi hai its difficult to settle. But the pain is for initial few years and then everything falls in line.Yahan Government salary pe ghar chalana muskhil hai . My juniors are earning more than me after MBBs only .Along with that koi khaas recognition nahi hai .Studio me politicians , bureaucrats se mulakaat ho jaate hai , bas . Aur koi bole ya na bole money matters . Yahan na paisa hai , na recognition , na koi kaam , bas ek bada naam hai post ka . Pseudo happiness k liye acha hai but andar k baat to mann jaanta hai . Everything is phoney.
I quit medical field to do something dynamic, to serve society and to earn a name . I would have been satisfied with my salary if I was in IAS and doing what i dreamt of . But i am in a dull and mundane job. Medical is far more dynamic than this . Infact as rightly pointed by @GKS08 after IRS none match our field. Now i know I dont have calibre to get into IAS. so pg is best option for me . PG seats have increased and there is certainty in that .

what service you are in? I guess customs or IT
  • After being in service for the last 4 years and having friends across all the services my observation is that IPS is the most unsatisfied lot.
IAS are putting up a happy face coz they are IAS otherwise most of them are not very content. IRS IT ppl seem the most satisfied. All others are same , all will feel that void.

So with time focus on other things like family and also your plan B. Life in services is not that easy. I am 1500 kms away from home in a job i dont like but yes i can see a future beyond upsc and this job. So do what you think is the best for you. Never stop working.

Its the right time to start too. Certainty of seat after hard work is best part after facing UPCS . UPSC is a gamble , indulge in it , but dont destroy your future. For a medico , its not only selection that matters . Rank has to be within 300 for a general candidate to attain some level of job satisfaction .

Totally agree . IPS 's life is tough . Most are unsatisfied . IAS cant say .My friends are happy with it. But IRS ppl are king. They have mental peace .
  • IAS mai bhi kuch nhi Rakha. Sab mithya hai.
    BAN ALL INSIDERS
  • Job personality ke sath fit hona chahiye. Ias ips sab Kahne ke liye hai
    BAN ALL INSIDERS
  • @Abcdxyz123 golden words. Job personality ke saath fit ho bas. Doctors ke liye even IAS bhi utna challenging nhi hai. Bas recognition jyada hai IAS IPS me.
@driftedpath bhai I can understand your predicament. I am in Railways right now. Not bad here. I agree with @GKS08 bhai, time to reevaluate where you want to be after 5-10 years.
  • The thing is the status attached with the posts of IAS IPS makes everyone to incline towards job. Otherwise work schedule to PG and Post-PG bhi bhot hectic hi hai. In medical field whatever you want you will have to earn that but in civil services you will get them by other ways.

  • bhai log, you can also consider for state services.......i mean after all it is an administrative job.
woh baat hai ki it is below IAS but IAS officers kab bhi koi boss hota hai.........senior IAS officers.
you will work in a state of your choice and it is a field job. Atleast SDM ki job acchi hai state service mein

Bhai sabse badi baat hai job satisfaction. No doubt SDM ki job bhot achhi hai.. even state revenue services ki bhi job achhi hoti hai.. but MD/MS krne ke Baad jo job milegi wo jyada satisfy kregi.. Everything depends on individual choices.. people even quit IAS to start unacademy and people quit MD paeds(PGI Chandigarh) to join IAS. Everything depends upon what makes you happy.

  • I am also thinking of going back to PG prep.
3 mains, failed in all 3. Attempts are left but I think it is futile to take chances and waste another years.
A lion doesn't concern himself with the opinion of the sheeps.
  • Anyone has any idea about state pcs ? How is it ? Is it worth it for a medico ?
  • I can't decide .. Some of my known are giving state pcs .Their rationale is that they cannot go back to pg preparation and medical field after so many years. They are advising me to do the same. A/T them with the knowledge base I have accumulated during upsc preparation can easily help me in clearing pcs . I am confused . Both cant be prepared simultaneously and i have to decide soon . Can't waste more time now .
I have never given pcs , have no idea about exam or job profile . If anyone has some idea , please guide me .
