After being in service for the last 4 years and having friends across all the services my observation is that IPS is the most unsatisfied lot. IAS are putting up a happy face coz they are IAS otherwise most of them are not very content. IRS IT ppl seem the most satisfied. All others are same , all will feel that void.
So with time focus on other things like family and also your plan B. Life in services is not that easy. I am 1500 kms away from home in a job i dont like but yes i can see a future beyond upsc and this job. So do what you think is the best for you. Never stop working.
Totally agree . IPS 's life is tough . Most are unsatisfied . IAS cant say .My friends are happy with it. But IRS ppl are king. They have mental peace .
@Abcdxyz123 golden words. Job personality ke saath fit ho bas. Doctors ke liye even IAS bhi utna challenging nhi hai. Bas recognition jyada hai IAS IPS me. @driftedpath bhai I can understand your predicament. I am in Railways right now. Not bad here. I agree with @GKS08 bhai, time to reevaluate where you want to be after 5-10 years.
The thing is the status attached with the posts of IAS IPS makes everyone to incline towards job. Otherwise work schedule to PG and Post-PG bhi bhot hectic hi hai. In medical field whatever you want you will have to earn that but in civil services you will get them by other ways.
bhai log, you can also consider for state services.......i mean after all it is an administrative job. woh baat hai ki it is below IAS but IAS officers kab bhi koi boss hota hai.........senior IAS officers. you will work in a state of your choice and it is a field job. Atleast SDM ki job acchi hai state service mein

Bhai sabse badi baat hai job satisfaction. No doubt SDM ki job bhot achhi hai.. even state revenue services ki bhi job achhi hoti hai.. but MD/MS krne ke Baad jo job milegi wo jyada satisfy kregi.. Everything depends on individual choices.. people even quit IAS to start unacademy and people quit MD paeds(PGI Chandigarh) to join IAS. Everything depends upon what makes you happy.
I am also thinking of going back to PG prep. 3 mains, failed in all 3. Attempts are left but I think it is futile to take chances and waste another years.
I can't decide .. Some of my known are giving state pcs .Their rationale is that they cannot go back to pg preparation and medical field after so many years. They are advising me to do the same. A/T them with the knowledge base I have accumulated during upsc preparation can easily help me in clearing pcs . I am confused . Both cant be prepared simultaneously and i have to decide soon . Can't waste more time now . I have never given pcs , have no idea about exam or job profile . If anyone has some idea , please guide me .
