@sandy88 1. Not required to state well known facts again. Wastage of precious words. 2. While writing pros and con's pointwise approach would have been better than paragraphs. 3. Check the language. Complain should be replaced by request
@igirit 1. Nice handwriting. (Ladikiyon ka advantage ) 2. Please be sure about facts when you write them in answer because extreme east of India is at 97.5E longitude which is 1 hour before the IST not 2 hours as stated by you. 3. No conclusion.
@Nasela_Batman 1. You said it should be divided into 2 time zones scientifically and again 3 time zones technically. Aren't these two contradictory? 2. You said problems are plenty in south India and jumped to conclusion pros outweigh cons. I felt something was missing. 3. Few grammatical errors. Check your conclusion word by word.
@Nasela_Batman 1. I thought it isn't very relevant to write about duration of time zones internationally etc. Reference to GMT also unnecessary to answer the qn-eating up words. 2. Contradiction between 2 & 3 time zones. 3. Don't agree with train time tables becoming more conducive. 4. Alternative solution of moving to 90 degree east can be suggested- even I didn't mention it. 5. Can you please elaborate on north-south point? I thought time is dependent on longitude not latitude.
The problem with technical and historical questions is that , there isnt much work to be done at the conclusion part .. @igirit and others could be spared for that , not sure how UPSC recruited professors responds to it ..
The problem is not technical. What Gogoi expressed was he wants a time that suits the NE where sun rises at 4AM and sets by 5PM if not earlier. Due to the present one single standard IST, people there are facing problems.
We need to analyse the socio-economic impact that a newer NEST will give them, and I presume that would be an able conclusion as well.
Not to mention, British themselves had a special plantation time that was ahead of the normal time that was followed even then.
One more point I would like to add to all that were discussed is, Bangladesh where sun rises later than arunachal Pradesh has an earlier time zone. Also, Dhaka and Guwahati which are less than one degree apart in longitude are 30min apart in time zone. Don't you think it will have an impact on the lifestyle? The same goes with places like katchch where sunrises at 8am and sets after 7pm.
nice answer as always but i think 1. no need to mention about GMT elaborately although i did the same mistake 2. i think conducive point has no such importance because in other parts too people starts their journey in nights. 3. three time zone is not the demand of answer i think because even north south stretch has no effect on time zone as it depends on longitude not on latitude
The problem with technical and historical questions is that , there isnt much work to be done at the conclusion part .. @igirit and others could be spared for that , not sure how UPSC recruited professors responds to it ..
I think it has to do with basic geography and the socio-economic impact of having Multiple Time Zones on NE and it is not something that is 'technical' or 'historical'.
It was a generic perspective .. You had mistaken me .. Just taken NE's -IST as a casual example nothing else . Hope @Thor you got it ..
I can come with ample examples where technical [its my core area >-) ] and historical questions cant end up with good conclusion ..
