Here is my answer for urbanization question of today .
Your precious reviews are awaited .
Yaar. You changed my question only. I asked for satellite cities and urban agglomerates also because urbanization and its side effects is a direct question.

Anyways the answer that you have written is good for that question. But I fear that question wont be so direct. Like even this time, urbanization and impact of senior citizens was asked.

Hmm i think i misunderstood the question completely but isnt the satellite cities n agglomerates in itself the cons of urbanization .Also i read somehwere that the directive "Discuss" implies to explain each an everything in detail about the topic .Is it so ?

Still i think i missed out on the points specifically mentioned in ques ie agglomeration and satellite cities .
    Thanks for your review .
    I 'll try & improve .
  • Thats what been said in my earlier post @LuV . Do whatever mistake you could've possibly done .. There are candidates who could write answers without skimming through different sources .. But you stick to your plan .. Refer max materials of your choice and come up with answer , and present here . If the critics go beyond your expectation , that means you need to improve in selecting your reading materials , else go on with your choice .. Hope its clear .

  • Today's question:" Location of airport in remote areas goes against the principles governing the location of industry as they provide more loss than profit. Also airplane carriers are made to compulsory operate to these airports. Discuss the reasons as to why this anamoly takes place. According to you, is it necessary?"
  • My answer for the Economic Growth question .

@Nasela_Batman you have written a lot of good and valid points but I felt the answer was discontinuous. You have written about Detroit and Spain but you could have added about our very own kingfisher. Now the government has plans of constructing 100 new airports in the country in the next 2 years and AAI is inspecting sites in at least 50 of them. This point should have been added and discussed.
  • I am going to start the thread with a question from GS-II in mains 2013

    Q. Many state governments further bifurcate geographical areas like districts and taluksbfor better governance. In light of the above, can it also be justified that more number of smaller states would bring in effective governance at state level? Discuss.
This is what I wrote: (Or rather something on these lines)

Started with the benefits of decentralization - Grass root democracy. Responsive and more accountable government, More focussed approach, More efficient and effective public service delivery, increased trust of people in the government, Empowerment of people, etc. And for these reasons the states are divided into districts and taluks.

But when it comes to the organization of states - Language, Tribal, Forest and Hill area identities have played a major role; Better governance and development has not been a major factor till now in the reorganization of states. There are many other factors which affect the sustainability and viability apart from the efficacy of governance. Mobilization of resources is the most important factor (Tax base and trade); Public mandate (Identities) - It should not lead to the division of people (Ethnic conflicts). States depend very much on the Union Govt. for funds ... Technology has made geography history and now a geographically large state can be managed as efficiently as a smaller state. etc.

Therefore every demand should be assessed on a case by case basis considering all the above factors: For instance:

Darjeeling can be viable because of: 4 International borders - Trade - A huge development multiplier. Tea estates - Export - International markets - 7 % of total world area - Huge incomes. Hydel power resources (Local, National and International rivers + Transport) and eco tourism. Folk knowledge related IPR.

Further opined that how bifurcation of UP can do a lot of good for governance.

But Vidarbha or Saurashtra may not be viable. (Explained why briefly.) And how further division of NE can destabilize the whole region as most of the demands are overlapping among other factors.
@Partho : I guess u have got this question wrong as in It is saying states further bifurcate districts and talukas. for better governance and not why states are divided into districts and talukas. Like Thane is being further divided for better governance.
It is Many States in the question otherwise all states divide their geographical area in districts and talukas.
  • @Hegde you have a habit of starting sentences with with / also / for. "The recent survey" either name the survey (NSSO / NGO) or use "A" . The ques was open ended so whatever you write is good but keep track of no of words.
    @LuV Good answer.
@bharat141 soft copy of UPSC answer sheet printed on a4 paper. Not the same size but gives the feel.
    Thanks buddy !!
I thought my answer lacked some factual data and was worried that i wrote an idealistic type of answer without giving somw factual figures but i was relieved by your response .

    My attempt
@Nasela_Batman: A few suggestios for your answer writing:
    1. Use sub-headings: You are not following a point format of writing. I personally prefer point format for some questions and not much like paragraph writing. But if you want to write it in paras, then you can at least give sub-headings like Need for remote airports, Drawbacks, Future, etc. It increases readability of answer.

    2. Underline: Though this is not college/university exam, so I am not asking for full on pen-writing-pencil-underline stuff. But again, since you follow para form of writing, you need to highlight your main arguments. You can do this on-the-go with pen. Especially in GS, as might know this time, very less time for writing itself. It again increases readability of examiner.
