this was my third attempt and 2nd mains.. in 2015 mains i missed cutoff by few marks. this year worked very hard and exam went well. shocked to find my roll no missing. still not able to believe it. got selected as assistant commandant in 2015. took extension for this dream. 2017 will be last attempt as will have to join force in oct/nov and after joining force upsc dream will be over. just unable to find happiness
I was working in navaratna PSU left the job missed prelims last year gave mains this year with EE optional toil too hard studied for long hours that my back developed problem... to my utter shock I could not qualify yesterday I thought of jumping from 8th floor of my flat last night...what should I do my family members hurled abuses @ me my friends made fun of me...I am thinking of suicide..
Arey boss u r already a qualified person..U can easily get other opportunities...Upsc has been a broken dream for many successful person..Who rise to much greater heights in their life.
Yes bro you are correct, in my previous PSU, where I was working...the divisional manager was ex-upsc aspirant!!
^^ If it gives you any consolation, I myself went crazy for a month or so after the 19th Feb failure last year.
I drank, broke stuff, destroyed public property, abused people, got in fight, gate crashed parties, watched extreme porn, explored my sexuality, openly favored atheism. In a nutshell, I just lived as if I was going to die the next hour. It's unorthodox but, it helped me!!
An anecdote: I literally fought with a ticket window clerk on New Delhi railway station last year on 13th March. I mean literally fought with fists, kicks and punches. I went inside and slapped him for delaying giving me the ticket. It was a flimsy pretext. I just wanted the fight. Police arrived, my shirt was all torn, my lips were bleeding, I was beaten black and blue by railway staff and then took a laathi from police. But honestly, those moments were the happiest moments for me in March 2016.
Even if I make it to IAS this time, that will be a memorable moment in my life and I'll remember it on my death bed.

Is it advisable to switch to anthropology at this point of time(though my geography was better this time than previous attempts)?????

Dear, I was in same boat last time, failed in prelims thrice continuously...left 4 govt jobs, everybody making fun of me in village...but this is just an exam, there are greater things in life than this exam...take some days break, explore your interested things, find a job and then come back to this race if you want...plz dont ever think of suicide...
Which all govt jobs you left brother? Reason for asking is so that I can console myself of being jobless since I started preparation 4 years back. Mains-out.
Quit job in 2010 2011-Mains out 2012-Mains Out 2013-prelims out 2014-prelims out 2015-Mains out 2016-Mains out
6 attempts exhausted, aged 29. The worst that could have happened has happened. I can either drown in self pity or move on! And I am moving on. All the best to everyone else on this thread as well
