My story is same but pressure is diffrent..my family is saying.." 27 year ka ho gaya hai..do marriage first..nahi to koi shadi nahi karega.." ab unko kese samajhau ki Berozgaar shadi karke bhi kya kare..
2 attempt..2016 mains failed..2017 pre ke liye apply kar diya hai..Korbo..ladbo..jeetbo re..

I was working in navaratna PSU left the job missed prelims last year gave mains this year with EE optional toil too hard studied for long hours that my back developed problem... to my utter shock I could not qualify yesterday I thought of jumping from 8th floor of my flat last night...what should I do my family members hurled abuses @ me my friends made fun of me...I am thinking of suicide..

Bhai plz leave those thoughts...i can understand your feelings but do you think suicide is a solution??take a break,collect all your strength and start again.Best of Luck

@all, these days, the cut off goes insanely high for general candidates. For ex, in this years ssc exam the cut off was 137 , so on and so forth.

Pvt sector is no longer an option, thanks to the increasing workload and diminishing salaries. Also, brexit and the dawn of trump presidency will make things worse. Even graduates from top universities are now sitting for ssc level exams for backup purposes.

Either govt should increase posts, or the the age limit for general candidates. People sometimes confuse jobs with college education. The have this idea that like the govt has reduced age and attempts for iit, same should be done for upsc also. These two entrances are for totally different areas which can't be equated. Also, this year, they have advertised only 980 posts for civil services.

I foresee a situation, where we would see unemployed educated youth in their 30s and 40s engaging in organized crime cartels. The govt has to increase openings somehow, either via psus or merging some administrative posts together

I agree with a major part of your comment.

Only thing where I slightly differ from you is that pvt. sector is still a very viable and vibrant option. But you need to have a mindset for it. Once a person enters the ecosystem of govt./civil services it's hard nay impossible to revert to pvt. sector. His mind is conditioned a certain way. He simply knows too much to walk away, plain and simple !!

Salaries are not diminishing in pvt. sector. Actually after the 7th CPC, pvt. sector has also upped it's ante. Some of my batchmates from B.Tech (plain B.Techs) are earning north of 15L p.a. And some of those who went for MBA, are taking home more than 20L.

And yes, you are right, highly-educated enterprising youth are already taking to crime. Recently (in Nov. 2016) multi-nation drug & gold smuggling racket was caught in Bangalore which was managed by an ex-IITian !!

People on this thread should focus on future strategies.

Just because, I have not opened up my credentials, doesn't mean I've not failed in CSE in past. I have endured failures in CSE in past attempts but dealt with them in cool & calm way.
No need for any 'araajaktaa'. I can't emphasize that more. It will only hurt you. None else.

We should give more focus on how to deal with this failure .....Can anyone tell how to clear Uppsc when i failed its pre last tym....can we think of going for upsc n uppsc simultaneously ?

i am thinking of investing in share market and start earning few pennies so not to totally rely on parents
will be giving 2017 prelims but i am not yet totally out of the devastation and shocking result night .
going to haridwar for some peace for 2 days ,then i will be back in the race
i cant take job right now as exams are approaching closer now

P.S - mai upsc ka office mai bomb rakhna chahata hun if some one ready we can make a team and discuss strategy

PO Exams now a days require dedicated prep. Except perhaps RRB PO. They are not the PO exams of yesteryears where GK ruled and Quant was predictable.

Majority of CAT aspirants too jump for PO as their syllabi is synced.

SSC, PSUs etc. are better options.

Dude I agree. But not everyone is an iitan or an nitian in out country. Infact, after revisions, many class c/d employees earn more than entry level engineers from 2nd-3rd rung colleges. Companies hire en masse and bench them, or make them do routine mundane outsourced work with no options of skill upgradation. Add to that long hours and chances of pink slips if something happens in the American economy.


Now this exam is a great equalizer where an iitan and someone from a college you haven't even heard of compete and sometimes the latter trumps the former. In pvt sector, your education plays a big role in deciding your future worth. Same is not the case with the govt sector. Also, I believe the only incentive in the pvt sector is money and as your appetite increases, so does your work and then we find the cases of non communicable diseases increasing in our nation. Pvt sector is not all razzle dazzle in our country atleast where it is linked with the American or the European economy.


Everyone desires and aspires to have a good life. If someone finds happiness in attempting an exam, he should have the full right of doing so, till a particular age as per our demography. Majority of our populace is still under 35 and compared to global average, even 35 is young. Some achieve their goals early and some are late bloomers. @Indian_Cheetah

Dear, I was in same boat last time, failed in prelims thrice continuously...left 4 govt jobs, everybody making fun of me in village...but this is just an exam, there are greater things in life than this exam...take some days break, explore your interested things, find a job and then come back to this race if you want...plz dont ever think of suicide...

Which all govt jobs you left brother? Reason for asking is so that I can console myself of being jobless since I started preparation 4 years back. Mains-out.

IBPS MT/PO, LIC AAO, IBPS RRB PO, ACIO bro...first worked for one year in LIC and then left it for preparation, again after I did not clear prelims in two consecutive attempts, wrote other exams, cleared but did not join due to 2014 mains...writing other exams having one advantage is that by clearing them you can get confidence that hammered by this result like happened in my case...another advantage is they give us backup...but should not deviate from UPSC later
