I am not at all eligible to be here, but I too had failed (in prelims)and I think you ppl are much more experienced to help me out with this.
Age: 27 (25 on certificates) B.Tech from a govt institute in 2013, working in TCS since then...Earning 4.5 LPA 2014: took prelims without knowing anything about CSE... Failed 2015:took prelims with 15 days break from office...Failed (marks in 70s) 2016: took prelims with 2, months break..failed
Could not study much since then.
Haven't completed the optional Sociology... Only read MP Notes and ncerts
CGL 2016: Total marks 480+
Had thought of resigning immediately after SSC marks and use this time solely for CSE, but somewhere I feel that it's too late and I should skip this attempt.
I am far from any metro city and there's hardly anyone to guide.. and am the only source of sustenance for my family.
Any input from @Indian_Cheetah and all would be much appreciated... Thanks in advance.
100 days are more than enough for gearing up for prelims. That's my first opinion.
But you can skip it, if your gut feeling is asking you to do it.
Look, if you skip, you will still have 4 years and 3 attempts left at CSE (assuming you are from general). Plus you'll have your 4 attempts at IFoS intact. Plus you can take many shots at State PCS. So, nothing to lose there.
I don't know about the SSC ecosystem very well, but 480+ marks should hand you a decent SSC post. So, take it and switch jobs.
------------------------
On a side note, if you are from a govt. institute and are working in TCS for 3+ years (mid 2013 - early 2017) you should be getting much more than 4.5 LPA. Something around 6 at least. 7 to be fair. 4.5 is too less to show for 3.5 years. IMO, you should talk to HR and re-negotiate. HR will try to brow beat you at first but prepare your case well. It's not a bear phase for consulting. And I'm guessing you must not be benched a lot. You should get an immediate raise.
All the best.
Thanks a lot! Where I am clueless is: with this level of preparation, do people give a shot, coz it isn't only about Prelims (for which 3 months are decent)....is Mains doable in 7 months (of course from my end, no use in considering luck and all)?
And regarding raise: Though it seems 3+ yrs but I have faced only two appraisal cycles, so it would increase this time, n yeah I have never been on bench. But I have never worried about the salary cz I have this CSE in my mind but bread-butter constraint never allowed me to leave it. Plus I was out unplanned for 2 months for this Prelims, so HR and me are at logger heads.
you can negotiate payment revision with HR in amicable way . With civils in mind, TCS is the best choice you have. Manage your shifts at work. 100 days will suffice for prelims..focus on CGL. Prepare a strategy, stick to the schedule, work on bottle necks of preparation.

Last year when I failed pre in 2015. I tried to motivate myself one more fight back, one more chance to push urself through the process. And Dis motivation continued till d mains PDF in my hand. Wat is left wid me is just the skills acquired if any. Everything is useless every biography every quote every moral or good deads. There is no purpose in life der is no place u want to be it's just a void. Because failure has been a permanent friend and pain as a faithful companion. My friends I m writing dis to tell u day if u feel wat I m feeling it's not wrong. There is no motivation or fight back nature or der is no superstition to pull u back. Every attempt is a fresh attempt an explored territory ur fate is not decided u r just on ur own. I hope u stop hoping in life because as in matrix architect says, hope is d mankind's greatest weapon and weakness. I would say it's just an illusion
