Sabine has called the thoughts of Machiavelli as narrowly local and narrowly dated. His assumption is based on the fact that the Machiavelli's writing depict the political realities of his time in Italy. Sabine reflect that if he was born in a different space and time, his views on human nature, statecraft, religion would be different.
Machiavelli considered human nature as self centered and greedy. His views reflect the situation in Italy under the wave of renaissance when men started giving primacy to self realization and joy of living. Such kind of feeling also affected the level of patriotism in Italy which was divide into five states. So as a result his views only reflected the darker side of human nature.
He is also criticized for his narrow view on religion and politics. He stated that national interest should have primacy over religion. His views on religion is also influenced heavily by the situation in Italy when the Catholic church and clergy wanted to keep their control over Italy and thus was preventing the unification of Italy.
Despite of all the impressions of his time and space in his thoughts it is not correct to state that his thoughts were narrowly dated and narrowly local. Even in the contemporary time the use of smart power, which first originated in his thoughts , have great relevance in the realm of politics.
He is compared to Chanakya by JL Nehru due to similarity in their thoughts. Chanakaya and Machiavelli span a very different time and space. Many modern political thinkers like Hobbes, Marx and Engels have drawn inspiration from his work. His thoughts were later used to develop many important political concepts like "state", "sovereignty", etc. Even the work of scholars like Morgenthau in international politics are influenced by his thoughts. His idea of secularism is a great contribution to modern politics.

The statement implies that state is the larger or magnified version of the individual. This idea is used in the context of Plato's Theory of Justice. Plato has explained his Theory of Justice at the following two levels: (i) State level and (ii) Individual's level.
Plato has tried to explain the Idea of Justice at the level of state first and then at the level of individual. His contention was based on the premise that it is easier to understand things at the magnified or larger level than at the small or lower level. At the level of state the purpose of justice is to serve two purposes of providing harmony and excellence. At the level of individual he states that a just person is one whose inherent characteristic like courage control appetite and reason control courage and appetite.
So in a just state men of reason should form the ruling class and they should control the decision making process. This Idea of Justice transforms the state into a hierarchical structure where men of reason holds the topmost position followed by men of courage and men of appetite. Being an elitist, Plato believes that such a hierarchical system of state will bring overall harmony and excellence.

hum log kaun sa upsc ka professor hai .... sirf answers compare karna hai and improve karna hai....
I am not sure...But i think to be on the safer side a very well structured answer of 12-15 times the marks is good enough to score good marks.
