India seriously needs an alternative to Congress & BJP, and no I am not talking about AAP. By the way, I still can't understand if Sachin deserved Bharat Ratna then what has Dhoni done to not deserve it? Any enlightenment for me?
They aren't even comparable, are they? MSD is probably one of the best ODI finishers of all time. That is it. He isn't a great captain, is an average keeper and a pathetic test batsman.
SRT ranks right among the greatest cricketers of all time - at par with Don and Viv. He also happened to inspire sportsmen across the field. You talk to Pankaj Advani and he will mention SRT as his inspiration. You talk to Saina and so will she. He inspired a generation to believe that an Indian sportsman can face the best in the world and emerge triumphant.
There are probably only two other sportsmen that would make a case for Bharat Ratna - Vishwanathan Anand and Dhyanchand. Putting MSD in the same league is blasphemous. Even he himself wouldn't suggest this.

Ok but Bharat Ratna is not given for being a good batsman, or making tonnes of runs. Is it?
^^ SRT was not just a great cricketer, he was a great role model and and an even greater ambassador of the game.
If singers, scientists and politicians can get the award, I see no reason to exclude sportsmen. Anyone who stands a notch above others and touches people beyond his field of expertise can be a contendor, right?
@sniper thank you for taiing the time to explain. I just see no case for sportsmen that's all. Literature and art influence our existence, modify our value premises, science is the only panacea that we have and true public service requires transcending the innate selfish & competitive human nature. Where comes sport in this context?! Thanks anyway.
