Since the arguments are continuing endlessly, I want to ask @jaguar why do you think that your freedom of expression is so inextricably linked with the F word? Why can't you put across your point without using it? Do you complain to your family as well as they have restricted your fundamental freedom to say the F word? (You don't address your family members with these words, do you?). And if the setting changes, like here on this forum, would you, in the garb of anonymity, utter anything as you please? True, I myself use swear words a lot in conversations with my close friends, but not here, I don't know anyone here personally, so I wouldn't take the liberty to use such words in my conversations here. Vulgarism is very difficult to define, because each one of us has different kind of upbringing. What is perfectly acceptable to someone may not be acceptable to others. And as I have argued earlier, if moderators become more liberal, where to draw the line? F word is ok, but MF is off limits? So in such cases be respectful of other people's sensitivities. Avoid saying something that is avoidable. Besides when you joined the forum, you subscribed to the forum policy 1.VI. You have come here with your free will. If you don't like something, you are free to leave.

My views are - no swear words, as much correct grammar as possible, no SMS language, no calling names, no eve teasing.
And there is nothing like Orkutization. A lot of us here are there on Orkut as well. Most of us have friends there. The people are the same, both here and there.

Sorry brother, I may have misunderstood your arguments. At a personal level I too think the word is harmless, but many others may not. So I better avoid it. Why offend anyone when I don't even know him/her. Anyway, I think we can keep on discussing the issue till eternity, without ever concurring. So better avoid it. Time to go back to books.
Why cant you just follow the rules? Its not your or my forum. The owner has put up rules that we need to follow how ever stupid they are like no sms language. But some rules makes sense like no slanging or attacking. What will you do in Missouri...use slang in front of your batch and prove how poorly your family has tought you? You will be a joke if you do that...nobody respect you. Take the rule as practice so that you don't do fool of your self there.

I have also criticized stupid rules like no sms language and no extra punctuation. But using slangs does not make talking cool. It just makes people look like apes copying western misculture.

Also to add, I was not talking to any body. That family comment is in general and not for any body. I am against personal attacking myself. So no rough feelings.
I'll tell you what's wrong with the 'f-word'. Try using it in front of your batchmates/colleagues who you're not well acquainted with, people who come from motley backgrounds, and observe their reactions.
Go with a simple, 'Duuudeee! This is so effin' awesome!'. You'll see some cringe their nose, some shocked at your choice of words, a few who don't give a flyin' 'f' and the leftover janta who may completely get what you're saying.
For me, I'd not want to cause even an iota of displeasure to anyone. When there is a 'safer' alternative, might as well use it, innit? Not that you commit a cardinal sin, but um, when you have a choice, choose wisely.
Now with regards the forum, and the li'l experience that I have here of about 4 months now, the thing that attracts me to this place is the cleanliness of the posts. They are of very high quality, reflective of the focussed outlook of the aspirants. If people start using slang, clutter this place with SMS verbiage et al, I'd be put-off and my interest in the forum would go down as well. And yes, that's just my opinion.
Rules cannot be enforced, they are to be willingly followed by individuals who see themselves being a part of a particular set-up. However, if you have signed up to be a member of the group, it is obligatory, and imperative, that you abide by them. Summum bonum.
Moderators should change their moderation policy for sure.. Some new(not all) members are spreading filth everywhere.. Moderators should adopt a harsh and no warning, only action policy to maintain the decorum of the forum.
