In case of general elections exams are postponed, tab to sab logistics clear ho jaate hai lekin itne gambhir mudde par postponment nahin ho sakta. Kya ek aadha protestor police ki lathi se ya aatmdah karke shahid hoga tabhi UPSC aur government ki aank khulegi kya.
Election is a small thing and this is gambhir mudda ?
    :-))

Election process covers billion people. This protest hardly covers 1000 students
Postponement of the examination is not a solution. Its all of us' duty to finish studies within time. If postponement is allowed there will be more demands as well. Its also injustice to large number of seious aspirents who have finished the syllabus and waiting for the exam... But govt. should be able to guarantee that every candidate can reach the exam hall without any hurdles on 24th. Considering the protests still goinng on in Delhi, I doubt the protesters will go to any extent for preventing the exam happening on 24th. That day of exam peace of mind is so crucial which you all know.
So the all party meet should conduct as early as possible and reach an amicable solution. As I said in my earlier post making CSAT Paper-22 qualifying with a reasonably good cutoff can be a good solution but not for this year as it will cause further delay.
My stand is always aptitude paper is for checking your skills and not for ranking. We cannot say that those who are scoring 120+/200 dont have these skills.(Though paper-2 is doing good job for me... )
you know .. actually a better solution would be to make gs paper 1 qualifying, with a reasonable cut-off. You are already ranking people according to GS in mains. Y non filter in people with aptitude and then check their knowledge and understanding of GS. Moreover, how is the knowledge of akbar, babar, photochemical smog etc imperative for a civil servant? A gud aptitude and comprehension are certainly necessary qualities of a civil servant.. son't you think??

    +1
Making GS-1 qualifying is also definitely a soln. But I prefer making paper-2 qualifying because as I said, in my view aptitued paper should not be for ranking. The motive behind this paper as I understand is to check whether a candidate is possessing basic skills in QA, reasoning (logical & analytical), and ofcourse proficiency in english. So when you reach a decent score (120+) its already understood that you have these qualities.
Second thing is that the main reason behind this protest is the ever increasing high cutoff and the pschological fear it created on the minds of those people who are not good in paper-2. So making paper-1 qualifying will not solve the current issue.
After all I dont think paper-1 is done away with mere rot learning these days. The tricky choices are set in a way to test your information as well as intelligence. So it will do good only to the competition by making paper-2 qualifying.
How have you derived 120? And what if someone fails at 119.67?
  • I read the second one... But I think that the depth required in religious philosophy is missing.. Questions are mostly asked from this area.. Can I get that in the second book..
The philosophy is dealt with in sufficient depth in The Wonder That Was India.
  • Am able to view from my mobile. I don't think it's prob with the site
madam everyone is facing the prob(PC/Laptop users) i think prob is with website only. i am no technical expert so can not say what is wrong or what is not with the website.. :P

i think 120 = 60% or First division wala concept use kia.. :P

First of all 120 is not a mandaory cutoff... I just said an eg. Let UPSC decides the cutoff based on the over all perfomance of the candidate. Regarding brim cases its fate thats only. Now also it happens and you cant do anything on that. Whenever there is a cutoff some people will miss marginally. You cannot apply fuzzy mathematics here.

    What is your optional subject?

Here is the problem with making any paper qualifying.

If paper 2 is made qualifying at 140 and the cut off goes 220, it means that 80 becomes the implied cut off for paper. So, one needs 80+ and 140+ to get through.

    1. Who will decide whether it should be 80/140 or 60/180 or sth else?
    2. Lets say you use 80/160. Would it be fair to let a guy through with 80/160 and fail a guy with 130/159 given that 80 and 160 are both arbitrarily determined? Combining scores will never lead to this gross a mistake!

Please counter my questions with logic and not stupidity. Thanks.
