what about people from arts background studied in regional language ??will they qualify in prelims having high cutoffs??.They spend more time on studying english language and doing maths, while other people preparing mains effectively...So they take years to clear the exam while engineer and management students can clear exam in single attempt only....
Sir .. arts or commerce or science .. everyone studies maths till class 10 and questions asked are of that level .. so why this kolaveri di? Comprehension which occupies half of the questions is far more crucial than quant questions which are really handful .. !!
Then what about comprehension??For regional language people they have to learn english compulsory.Nevertheless why they want test maths again ,had everyone studied and learned it at their school stage.....
Scrapping of whole csat will not be a good step.Instead why not initiate sectional cutoffs in GS paper and make CSAT qualifying in nature or rather make arrangements for a better translation of Comprehension into other languages but then the whole purpose of testing a candidate's english skills is lost .I can understand the problem of the candidates here but what problem can anyone have regarding the quantitative part.
I am an engineer too and I dont like quant part myself but I am ready to work on it .Average, Time and speed, Percentage, ratios these topics constitute basic mathematics. All Quant needs is practice which is needed everywhere in life and everytime when we have to learn something new and challenging .Its like learning to drive a car.If one says that he will drive it only when all the roads are empty then he'll never learn.Instead he practices it and in time he is adept at driving a car.Same is the case with Quant. You practice enough of it and it will become like driving a car and it will come to you without even thinking about it .
If UPSC keeps changing format on every protest then the exam will never be held at a proper time.
I am curious as to why people didnt protest so vehemently when UPSC included CSAT and removed GS2 from pre.Protests at that very moment would have been much more meaningful and justified .

that quant is of 8th standard book. yes RC need some practice, moreover they should do proper translation of the RCs, i was reading one RC its translation made me laugh... this is the thing that needed to be sorted out. comprehension skill are very much required by an officer who has to go through a tonn of data to find out the true meaning of the policy(filework)
also i am in favor of minimum marks in paper1 like they have in CPF..
if a person fails to score 30% marks in P1 do not check his/her paper2. that would sort many things. rest these politicians can do anything. but i expect some rational decisions from this govt.
Before 2011 nobody sure about their success in prelims exam, whatever may be their intelligence and education. Now what happened some people simply clearing prelims without any hard work. Finally what happens ,decreasing the competition in mains.
@all if you people remember nigavekar committe report he was not in favor of so much english comprehension in p2. he wanted that there should be more questions from logical and other sections instead of english(comprehension).
also upsc members were in favor of scrapping the optional but nigavekar was against it. i hope if they are making any changes they should scrap the optional now too...
