To be honest there is a need to rationalize the syllabus especially in Paper-1 - We have World History from 18th century + Culture + History of India from fall of Mughal Empire to Present - I think is more than Paper 2 of history optional. The syllabus is worded so vaguely that you have no idea what to study and what to leave.
On top of that we have social issues + Indian/World Geography/Industrial Location/Environmental Change!!
And as far as Indian Administration is concerned most of it is already covered in Paper 2.
Guys.. For the sake of argument, lets say optional is removed and two new GS papers are added. What could be the topics? Keep in mind the UPSC words - GS papers do not require any specialized study and any one should be able to answer it with current affairs knowledge and static portions fro school syllabus.
I can think of Economy getting one full paper, S&T, Environment & Computers - One full paper, GS 6 - Public administration in India?
instead of public administration they can split paper-1, though they can put in some pub ad in the GS-4.
frnds... optional will stay for sure....100% confirm...earlier optional removal for proposed and d.p was pushing hard for its removal...but it was not supported by other members and opposition to optional removal was lead by alka sirohi who is expected to take over as next upsc chairman....dis news is very authentic....optional will stay and syllabus of gs is going to be changed slightly...sm new topics are being added but no new paper is added.....plus thr is no change in pattern of prelims i.e thr will be two separate pprs as earlier the only change is dat comprehensions whtge is decreased and its made qualifying... so i suggest to continue with d optionals...notifctn will b delayed by atleast 14 days as committee want to have a say of new govmnt even before swearing in ceremony...
Do u mean that entire paper2 would be made qualifying or its just the comprehension part...
