  • so its 5th chance of speculation. seems that moderators have also increased 2 chances like upsc. better use this chance judiciously to waste time ;)
  • Let me start :-

First , regarding exam (2014)date . Normally UPSC's new notification get released only when previous year's final result has published .Till June 5 personality test is there . One more week for officials for setting the rank list and getting Govt approval . So I guess 2014 could be delayed a bit more .

And regarding exam pattern change , my friend who has just done with his personality test on May 1 now joined ALS as a non-teaching faculty has made me a statement that , there is high speculation hovering in Delhi about prelims pattern change [one paper of 150ques*2marks=300 marks ]and the removal of optionals . But cant be still sure , nonetheless their fellow rival VajiRam has not yet decided to start optional class in near future.

And from the previous 'civilized' speculation thread too mentioned the very same . So hope everything end happily . :)>-

the argument that since attempts have been increased due to previous pattern change, upsc might club all future changes and introduce them this year itself to avoid further demands for increased attempts, sounds very reasonable.

So, I think while preparing one should stick to the general topics and basic understanding instead of depth in any of their current optional subjects. Eg pub ad guys like me can just stick to the thinkers book and basic coaching notes/polinaidu or any book written in simple language for now, keeping mohit bhattacharya aside for a while. Also they will have more than one subject in the new gs papers i guess, so syllabus will def be limited from each.

Suppose they add philosophy in the new gs paper, im sure they will keep in mind that guys like me have no ******g clue about this subject. Topics/syllabus is expected to be such that i can read it from one or two basic or must read book/s of philosophy.

Based on these thoughts, guys kindly post the list of basic books of your respective subjects please.

    I start with pub ad

    1. Laxmikanth or Polynaidu: introduction and basics about the subject.
    2. Administrative thinkers by prasad and prasad for theories

  • called upsc bhavan told some story that i belong to poor family blah blah. they directed to some no. told the same story there also.

the person politely asked- what do you want?

me - sir i want some confirmation regarding changes in civil services.

    upsc- what confirmation?

    me- are there any changes?

upsc- there might be just wait for the notification..

me-sir any idea about notification date?

    upsc- next weekend.

me- sir it was scheduled to be released this week only...!! does this mean there is a definite pattern change?

upsc- there might be some changes. there might be none. these things can not be discussed. you are appearing for CSE we think you should be smart enough to understand the situation that the things related to changes in exam and pattern are not discussed with the administrative staff.

me- sir i do understand. i just wanted some hints. as many people who as per se have close connections are spreading some very weird rumors. they also say they have credible info by some senior ias/ifs officers.

upsc- listen i will tell very clearly,(i could sense he was getting angry) the changes and the pattern change are decided in the highest offices and no one other than the chairman himself of the immediate staff can say anything about it. if any one else is saying anything then they are lying blatantly. focus on your studies do not get distracted.

me-thank you sir. have a good day.

@Woodpecker the officer has rightly said it, thanx for sharing.

i think we should discuss how to be ready for change, like discussing how to prepare for the expected new syllabus, like law, sociology, etc. which site/book/material is good, etc.
  • Can someone call Mr. Farid today and ask him about the changes?

i think we should not waste our time discussing the future pattern and rather focus on the things that are static and we have already covered. better revise them over the coming week than speculating the new abc pattern...

what's your status mate..!! how much have you done..!! any topics left..!!
  • Reading the discussions fellow members had with various people in UPSC I think whatever changes upsc may have in mind needs to be first discussed with new government. That might explain the delay and ambiguity. The new govt could decide eitherways and depending on when it does we should have the notification.. till then we can hope ABKI BAAR..JALDI BANE SARKAR ;-)
