  • geography guys are u upscaling your p1 scores by 1.1 or taking it as it is? anyone?
  • I know this is a worn-out topic but... how are people with Maths scaling their scores?
With good hiking boots and a stout walking stick?

    =))
You seem to have an idea about this optional
  • @all
how much marks you are expecting in your optionals....? This will steer the discussion towards better understanding of scaling factor....
    mine is pub adm. ( 91 + 95 = 186 )
  • 1. Optimistic estimate! :D

    810 + 200 = 1010
    rank range: below 10
expected result - IAS with full regal style! =P~ (*)

    2. Realistic estimate! :)

    760 + 180 = 940
    rank range: below 50
expected result - IAS with zero style! :|

    3. Pessimistic estimate! :-w

    710 + 165 = 875
    rank range: below 200
expected result - IPS with a zindabad for 3rd attempt- 2014 prelims!! :-L
  • my frend plz don't base ur calculations on last year topper (1013). It is clearly an outlier right...around 50 marks ahead of the 2nd ranker. try to base ur calculation on the scores of 100th or 200th ranker...i guess it shud be more accurate.

but we can't predict with any accuracy as there is no consensus on mains cut off itself...may b it is 568 or 600 or even 630!!! :'(
Considering 568 as mains cut off which many have confirmed and extrapolating using last year's cut-off i arrive at following figures.

    Mains: 700 + 236/300 (in 2012)

    So this year cutoff: 568 + (236*275/300) = 784.33 ~ 785

    Adjusting 10 marks for 100 extra seats this year: 785 - 10 = 775

    For IAS:

Assumption I: Last year 1013 which is 313 away from mains cutoff = 104.33% of interview marks

    This year: 568+ (104.33% of 275) = 854.90 ~ 855

Assumption II: Last year 1013 which is 77 away from final cutoff = 11% of mains cutoff marks

    This year: 775 + (11% of 568) = 837.48 ~ 838

Assumption III: Last year 1013 which is 77 away from final cutoff = 8.22% of final cutoff marks

    This year: 775 + (8.22% of 775) = 838.70 ~ 839

So this year my calculation says 775 for cutoff and around 840-850 for IAS.

Mid-table scrum will be heavily crowded.
    @ananduthan 1013 is co-incidently the cut-off for last year's IAS (general category)

  • @rookie

    congratulations..!!

even in the worst case scenario you are ending up in prestigious IPS ( i would be more than happy to accept it and start a new life )...but frankly seeing your response all throughout i could say you will surely get into IAS this time...you really deserve it... \m/

I can now say friends and relatives that I know an IAS officer :D (online at least)
  • @rookie even if the range is from 800-1000, 875 would be tantalizingly close to the ias cutoff

    cse 2008: 1173-1371; ias cutoff=1260 (87/111)
    cse 2009: 1127-1361; ias cutoff=1220 (93/141)
    cse 2010: 1134-1334; ias cutoff=1230 (96/108)
    cse 2011: 1090-1338; ias cutoff=1184 (94/154)
    cse 2012: 936-1193; ias cutoff=1013 (77/180)

in all these years ias cutoff is much less than the mean of aggregate marks range

  • guys how are you estimating pub adm. marks this time based on insider info. and your own gut feeling..??.. I feel that pub adm will be downscaled this time also but with a less devastating factor somewhere ~ 0.9....

Bro analyzing this comment, I am getting a feeling that I may have over-estimated my pessimistic estimate! L-)
But nevertheless, from ultra-credible source I know the mains cut off is 600 and I am estimating 800 to be the final cut off to be included the list, considering the fact that this time we have 1200 posts.
