Someone I know used to be a member of the board some years ago, for three straight years, and I was asking him about the entire grading system in the interviews. A few quick points;
1. Although marks awarded by different boards may vary, including the highest scores, they are normalised across the spectrum and the highest marks awarded by all boards on a particular day are almost the same- give or take 5. However, if the Chairperson of a board feels that his highest scorer- after normalisation- deserves higher marks, he can emphatically push for it and such an assertion is normally considered. 2. Average marks in an interview, according to the board members, are 60% through 65%. 3. The marks awarded by the board are consensus-based, as already mentioned by some people here, and the members can influence the Chair to inflate (usually) the marks of a candidate.

yes, ur right. Thats why I was wondering what people r doing after interview.....
Thats what i have heard and asked.. unanimously 568 is being told to me bcoz of low marks in ethics.. not many people im being told have scored more than 70
I second this 568 cut off. There should not be any big surprise as 700:2000 = 612.5:1750 and then effect of GS paper instead of optional.
To support this I have gathered some stats which is attached in the excel below.
54 students had scored more than 260 in GS last year whereas 86 students had scored more than 260 in Optional I and 102 in Optional II.
This further proves that scores in optional were comparably higher than GS. And that pulls the cut off south.
A look at the stats in the sheet above will throw more light on the marks expected (in relation to the marks last year).
Further on sheet 2 real data of last year including median, average, max & min is given.
Then on sheet 3 an analysis and estimate of 2013 has been done on the basis of 2012 marks.

Aaj office mein kaam nahi tha zyada to 2 data entry operators ko saath laga ke saara data enter karwaya and then created analysis. Took 3 hours of intense work.
Genuinely great stuff man! I don't really know what the correction factor should be, but since you have made the effort of analysing the data in such intricate detail, I trust your wisdom for choosing 10% and 3% as the multipliers.
