Moderator addendum: This thread is being generalised into the new speculation thread for 2014 pattern change. Here are the older closed threads for the sake of collation (continuation of previous debates is not recommended):http://forumias.com/discussion/4094/optionals-are-here-to-stayhttp://forumias.com/discussion/4066/civilised-speculation-cse-2014-changes-in-the-exam-patternhttp://forumias.com/discussion/3825/speculation-cse-2014-changes-in-the-exam-pattern

Ofcourse it is a speculation as of now. Since, the notification isnt out yet, everything said here has to be taken with a pinch of salt.
I dont get your concern about "the quality of the candidates" since they would still be selected by the exam process. Its not like the 1200 who get selected this year are far superior in quality (whatever that may comprise of) to the next 600-1000 odd people who just miss out.
  • 1800 seat agar aa gaye fir to sach mei maza aa jaye.... There are high chances of notification getting delayed... hope by mid of next week v get some clarity on the matter..
  • notification will be on time

optnl will not be removed.(while 2optionl became 1. that time upsc was in mood of removing both optional but due to opose of ugc they removed only one.ugc said that if both optional will be removed there may be some subject that will die due to this.. and sooner or later state psc will also follow upsc pattern so our graduation system will be affected badly..subject like socio, anthro, etc. will be in danger)

    ^^
one of my friend told me that.but i dnt know how correct he is.

I dont agree with this point. Most of major states have done away with optionals. So this logic that State PSCs follow UPSC doesn't hold good.
