  • Thanks @abhishekg
Great. Now that we have decided on that, what about this IT vs. ITeS and IT vs. ICT?

Actually Technological Universities are not 'Full Fledged' Universities in a way because these deal only with technical education whereas traditional Universities have strong humanities, law, Physical and Social Sciences programmes among others. To the best of my knowledge Technical Universities are State Universities and not under Union Government. So yes, Tech Univ. + deemed Univ. grant BTech and Central Univ (which will have far wider academic prog.) will award BE. I'm not sure whether ITBHU changed from BE to BTech after it was made IIT or even earlier it used to award BTech.
Sorry to say but nothing of that sort happens!!...

Neither the above mentioned classification holds not there is any rule as such regarding that only a particular species of college/deemed univ/univ/IIT/NIT can award a particular type of degree among BSc(Engg)/BS/BE/B.Tech/B.Tech(Hons) etc

The only "traditional" difference was that BE was supposed to be much more theory oriented with the syllabus focusing on the applied mathematics and fundamental physics aspects. Whereas B.Tech has primarily focused on the Practical Dimension of the theoretical knowledge which one gained from a single or an umbrella of mother engineering streams (and even from Pure Sciences).

(However, in the context of India the lines are extremely blurring. So this definition is an ideal dichotomy only!)

I will give one example that will make it more clear. There is a college in Kanpur by the name of HBTI. It earlier (prior to UPTU era) used to offer BE in Electrical Engg. But it also had other Engineering courses like Leather Technology, Paint Technology etc wherein the 4 year degree offered was B.Tech! So one college offering both BE and B.Tech. I guess they hooked to the ideal difference between Engineering stream and Technology stream.

Roorkee Univ prior to 2002 used to offer BE. After becoming IIT it converted the same degrees into B.Tech. However, IT-BHU had traditionally offered B.Tech only (i.e. after 1971) and it obviously continued to do so even after becoming a full fledged IIT (IIT-BHU). It's not that there is a single rule that all IITs are bound to offer B.Tech only. It's just that they tend to follow this as an unwritten convention.

UK traditionally offered B.Egg (i.e. Bachelor of Engineering) while US at undergrad level offers BS (Bachelor of Science), if one were to compare with our BE/B.Tech system!

Tell them frankly why you dont want to join IPS. :P
I mean mention the same reason which made you to mark '0' against it. Honesty is the best policy. :)

    Had my Interview today.

Chhattar Singh Sir board. Very cordial. Totally on profile. He gave plenty of latitude for me to answer. My own feeling is that I was not successful in satisfying the board, especially the Chairperson Sir.

Interview was average. No preparation required for Chhattar Singh Sir Board. Marvelous person. Respect for the man.

Not posting the full script here. Too tired.

P.S. The Board knows about the existence of this website and this thread in particular. They know the name ForumIAS.

Definitely she has awarded some of the highest marks too.. There's no member in upsc who awards only low marks. As everyone knows, it depends on their performance whether they get high or low marks!
