Friends, I think I have committed a mistake/blunder in my preference of services..preference given is IAS, IPS, DANIPS(Gr , IRS(IT), IFS and so on...while I am clear why I have put IFS on 5th but now many ppl are questioning me on my choice of DANIPS, which I have no answer to..:( One of my friend, whose dad is an IPS off. in Delhi, gave me this (insane) advice and I didn't do any research on this at that time.... now can any one suggest/elaborate on this, can it be justified by any logic, or I should simply accept before the board that it was a 'mistake'...
@aandha Some pointers to ponder over for an answer:
1) I want a job where I will get an opportunity to directly face common people on a day to day basis. Irrespective of the Grade, I have made this choice keeping this fact in mind. In fact one of the prime reasons to leave a job in the corporate sector (if any) and to plunge into CS was this desire for direct people interaction and problem solving job profile 2) I know for sure that at some point in my career I will be promoted to the IPS cadre as well. 3) DANIPS gives the advantage of police job in a commissionaire set up. So I will have executive magisterial authority (which a DM/ SDM enjoys in a non-commissionaire setup) 4) I have met and have personally seen the work profile of the father of one of my close friend in Delhi and I was thoroughly motivated by his job profile. He was a source of inspiration to me (So research on his DANIPS profile)
I think it would not be ok to simply surrender and "accept" that you made a mistake...... may be this will help!
is there any interview panel chaired by an ex-IFS (foreign service) officer at vajiram who has made the life hell of the candidates.. I have come to know that few girls actually broke down mid way and many male candidates were actually sweating and asking for water few times ???
If that is true then I will plan my 2nd mock pretty soon and will in fact request them to assign me the said panel....
What can be a convincing answer for lowest pref for North-East cadres ?
I think we need to be truthful here. Lets be honest, we as well as the panel know the reason. If I am asked such a question, I'll try to include the following point in sequence :
1. willing to serve anywhere. 2. but upsc, in the spirit of democracy, has provided opportunity to specify preferences which shall be allocated based on performance. I have taken this opportunity to specify states near to home as top preferences.
I think the above answer is just fine, but we may add that places like NE and J&K are better administered by local blah blah. But I don't think anybody can say this with any level of conviction, and besides in this case shouldn't we have skipped those places all together?

Yea, I was interviewed by the same board. It's not a good board, not because I dislike tough questions etc but they seemed mean and discouraging.
