  • What is the ratio of luck and hard work in cracking the UPSC?
Depends on how do you see your transformation into a IAS officer... Hard work is must here. :)

    And luck also
  • Luck covers major part of this exam process... It hurts more specially when we put too much at stake and do not find our names in that coveted pdf.. Many friends have suffered... Somehow we think that being into services is everything... Its not so.. Not even ias...we have to abide by rules of luck based process at every stage... Hence plz dont look it as end of everything if u don't make it... Believe me life is everyday struggle for honest and hard working person... Since financial interests are linked... Small systemic changes cost u urs peace, family. People become punching bags... Now why do i m saying this... Simply don't consider being into services everything.. Many ways are thr to make a difference.. Specially with ur lives...
  • So what are your views after solving the gs and essay papers?

You have to be lucky enough to reach the exam hall before the admission is closed :D

Haaan bhai that incident has been too much depressing....

Mein to news me dekha ... Ki anybody had suicide...

But maan na padega... That guy is strong. Mentally strong to eat that fault down his throat...
  • jisne acche se structure and basic content mein likh diya hoga covering all questions uska kaam ho gaya hai..baaki luck ka role hai but limited.

Improvement ka scope har failure ke baad badhna chaiye, na ki rigidity in attitude aa jaaye.
  • Suppose one has good right guidance, prepares in right way, does right things at right time..in such a scenario hard work : luck = 90:10

It is always 100:0 on luck:hardwork curve. Everything in the world is luck, the fact that you studied well is luck...a degree of randomness that you studied the right things. That you recall the correct things in the correct times in exam is also luck..all a matter of probability and randomness. That you are healthy during exams. That you reached hall in time. That your family is supporting you then..etc etc n number of variables.

If you are capable enough to control the randomness, predict the probability margins and have damage risk reduction strategy up your sleeves, you are good to go. The world is built upon randomness in phenomena, so no point cribbing about luck. Control your luck, with some life-learning anyone can.

You missed a very important "luck"- to get birth so that you can prepare.
