Government should encourage intercaste intercourse (marriage) to reproduce mixed caste kids.
Rise of those mixed caste kids will be the rise of the end of casteism in India.
Ye to hone se raha.. Tomorrow you will say government should encourage interreligious marriage so that faithless society can be produced. Stop living in utopian feeling
Govt of Rajasthan even pays you a hefty sum if you agree to marry a SC/ST person.In fact the prog has been around for quite some time now. Hasn't done jack squat in solving the 'problem' as you would like to put it..
Certainly a +ve step though.
I am not too sure about that honestly. IMO instead of focussing on annihilation of caste, they should try to impart value based education to the children right from the childhood, teaching them that all men are born equal and thus any race or caste based discrimination should be looked down upon.
Get rid off the prejudice mindset and you would see caste based hatred vanishing away quickly.
We teach our kids to stop murdering. Has murder stopped?
We teach our kids to stop raping. Has rape stopped?
It'd certainly be nice if we imparted in them the values you mentioned.
Apples and oranges really. Murder and rape are the outcomes of impulsive mind, most of the time they are spontaneous reactions of subconscious on which people have no control over. There's a reason why the murder and rape rate still remains high even in the nations with top human development indicators.
Otoh discrimination based on caste is a form of racism which isn't exclusive to India. All the major nations around the world has faced this problem in the past in one way or another. Heck in a highly developed country such as US , Blacks were treated as filth as late as 60s. But they did manage to transform their society (although the problem still persists but on a much lower level) and that could have been possible only through a concerted Govt and community efforts to change people's mindset through value based moral education. Good teachers were recruited and more focus was given on primary education and results are for everyone to see. We might not get there yet as we find ourselves embroiled in many other pertinent problems given our political and geographical issues but if we adopt this approach then I'm sure gradually we would be able to reach that level albeit a little slow but we will.
Why punish people for something that they have no control over?
I am optimist on this. New ideas of liberty,equality are spreading through internet, other communication channels. It will decrease the hold of religion, caste inferiority within the sc/st. They will gain the will power. Our country is developing..basic education, food milega sabko. Fir reservation ki jarurat hi nhi hogi.. cutoff barabar ho jayega.

Reservation is the way to avoid future civil war, armed revolt or partition of India in future. We Indians are highly hypocrite in the way that on one hand we criticise the caste based reservation system and on the other hand doesn't do anything to reduce caste based discrimination which still exists but in different forms. Reservation policy itself has some flaws and it certainly needs reforms like introduction of creamy layer criteria for SC and ST, periodic assessment of castes in OBC who needs needs reservation or not etc.

The government is too smart. It is reducing number of vacancies. This the best strategy to end reservation and no one will protest.
