I hv nvr seen ppl giving their life into an exam.You all are depressed bcoz you think that ur all dreams will get fulfilled if u clear this exam.In fact u hv postponed all ur dreams/job/personal life,for this one dream to come true.And when this one dream don't come true,u just break down. U r bound to feel lifeless as all ur dreams hinges on fulfillment of this dream. Just think about it- however hard u study,however smart u study,however intelligent u r,however lucky u r-only 1000 ppl will clear this exam. Rest all will fail. So,just chill. U neednot lose ur life over this irrational exam.I don't understand why they call it the most toughest exam. I think it is the most stupid exam in the world and we the most stupid ppl who r willing to sacrifice everything for this bloody exam. No exam,however big,can be bigger than life. Remember when we passed out of college,particularly engg college with a placement,we thought, this is it.we thought now everything will be super but u know very well, what happened next.... I m sure that even if we clear this exam,we still will be trying for something else,as we r doing now... I feel that we should talk to some IAS/IPS offrs who have spent atleast 7-10 yrs in service and ask them- Are they absolutely happy in life? If most of them say that they have got what they were seeking then only we can say that we have lost something by not clearing this exam otherwise we shud just treat it like a STUPID EXAM. You shud never rate an item higher than its price.

Ya,to an extent Ur right .but imo atleast not true in indian context.As our is murtipujak society believing in some sorts of incarnation by God equipped with supernatural powers for good against evil.so v worship God n consider dem different /superior from Commons.
same goes with IAS/ips once v clear it v r exemplified ,our minuscule struggles gets glorified.n yes the toppers r being worshipped too.
N Ur talking about selected officers,well imo the addiction of new earned power is enough to cover any miseries one faces to maintain it.
No doubt d glory,power n respect an upsc qualifier earns in such short duration at such young age,others can attain in dere 30s,40s,50s only.
But,yes Imo the hype it gets is irrational n has ability to demean/demotivate young professors, entrepreneurs,scientist,doctors etc,who too contributes equally or more for this nation.
Can't believe itne tough times mein gender discuss karna precedence le raha hai. Please everyone share your personal story to help others overcome their insecurity; pain; lonely battle. One (wo)man's courage makes a majority!!!!

fully agree . its due to colonial hangover otherwise if we r really interested to serve society we would never appreciate human shield type innovation or fake encounters of tribal in the name of development .. and irony of this toughest exam peple try to be robotic by practicing more and more in test series so that they can vomit into exam hall as soon as they reach .. none is ready to question stupidity of upsc ..none is interested why upsc shouldn't release answerkey of prelims just after prelims and invite objections .even the low profile exam conducting agencies do so ...
aur ek rattamar mechanism pakad li hain multi dimensional answer writing essay ko bhi ratte lagakar log marks la rahe hain jabki personal opinion or understanding unki bilkul alag hain
ethics main bhi answers bhi pahle hi rat where is the free and rational thinking ??????
interview main fake hobbies bharte haina ur uspar question answer ratkar bhi log ias bane baithe hain
bassi jaise upsc ke member hain vo kya kiski integrity pata karega jiski khudki integrity doubtful hain uske police commissioner rahte court main police ke samne lasers par attack huye aur isse palla jhad liya
so more focus on being good person not let down by selection or rejection in any exam (disclaimer many of my friends who are in the service held the same views )
