    PLEASE REVIEW. First ethics answer.

Courage, one of the four cardinal virtues by the simplest definition means the absence of fear. However, it also is the ability to face challenging situations and feelings despite the prevailing fear.

Courage in itself, is an empowering attribute as it is a result of one's committed belief to conquer inner fears and conflicts. It builds character that leads to a fruitful practice of other virtues such as forbearance, fortitude and endurance. In this regard, the fundamental virtue leads strong willed individuals to stand and emerge through the tide of time. Here, the references of Rosa Parks and Malala Yousafzai seem befitting as their spirit remained unshakable against the oppression they faced in their lives. Their experiences championed them into being more resolute and hopeful to achieving their cause.

Despite being an important virtue that aids our actions, courage doesn't operate in isolation. It is, what Aristotle called a virtue that is a 'mean of extremes'. The usefulness of courage lies in its careful and sound practice, that is, to avoid being too coward or too foolhardy. Hence, comes the importance of other three cardinal virtues- wisdom, temperance and justice that shape our display of courage and its rationale in given circumstances.

Thus, while there is no doubt that courage is a significant virtue that leads us from conflict to conquest to achieve honourable goals, its true usefulness can be better realized by collectively practicing other cardinal virtues as well to lead a complete ethical life.

First intro could have been better because Courage does not mean absence of fear. Secondly you could have elaborated how courage leads to forbearance, fortitude and endurance. Like - by showing courage what other Virtues were practiced by Malala ? However I find your third para has novelty. I missed this point. In conclusion you have derived that "courage leads us from conflict to conquest to achieve honourable goals." But courage is not only shown in conflict. I mean you have to be courageous to forgive someone also. So Courage should be seen in broader perspective.

P.S. These are only opinions just remember.
  • @granddaddy thoughtful use of examples there. A doubt- the question asks us to analyse the statement. Doesnt that mean we have to give a flipside argument as well?

I wrote mine on this line and had to cut short the examples.

You are right that flipside argument should also be given which i missed. Here use of short sentences can help us adding more content.
