@raksha i am no good in gs-4, but vl just try to answer this qn, feel free to correct any of step, its just my thinking....
possibly suggested course of actions and their consequences:
1. considering their threats to my employees to be real, i give them job: this will affect the morale of the employees and present me as a weak person who can be bowed down to any kind of pressures which is not a quality of a leader. this can also allow political interferences and lobbying efforts in the management of my company in the future which would not be in best interests of my company and will disturb the existing harmony among my employees.
2. As a CEO, i deny them jobs: but then they can harm any of my employees if their threat warnings are real. denying the disturbing elements job will for sure help maintain my dignity in eyes of my employees but its my duty as an employer to ensure the safety of them or the property of the company. So, any kind of harm to any of the two will be a claim of irresponsibilty on my part.
3. i will arrange a meeting with the chief to that political party at local level to resolve the issue and inform him of the issue if he is unaware of and check for any clarification regarding this. if he is unwilling to take any action, then the best way for me will be to proceed to inform police of the incident, file an FIR and move to court for the protection of my employees and the company's assets. i will also try to assure my employees of intolerability to any kind of wrong and try to assure them from any kind of harm while requesting them to be alert regarding their surroundings till the issue resolves and inform me or the police immediately if something feels strange around them which might be related to the issue.
members, please review these options and neccesary improvements in them...
Does evaluator want a balanced ' ethically correct' answer (which may even be utopian ) or decisive practical efficient answer (but not completely ethical) ? Can we give solution which may not be ethically best but the most pragmatic solution...
Practically, 2nd option works better most of the times .... But in answer sheet, will you opt for 1st option ? Now don't say, balance of both is needed....Please don't be politically correct

It is the reasons u give that matter... How you explain your points and justify your decisions. How many dimensions you can think in case of each alternative and tell why each is right or wrong according to you. Usually you must follow the law and constitution but even if you are going against it, justify accordingly. Marks are given for the ethics involved in the situation that you are able to write about and not the right or wrong answers.

a)ON THE DATE OF GATE CRASHING OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO DIFFUSE THE SITU: 1)Accede to the demands of the mob 2)negotiate with the mob and ask them to disperse now 3)give a complaint to the police explaining the situation 1) **.positives:
-will save employees and company property from damages -mob will disperse
**.negatives
-employees who are honest and loyal to the company will feel betrayed -political party based unions will be formed and free riders will be there without contributing to company which in turn will be detrimental to the existence of the company itself In this option negatives are dangerous and unsolvable.Hence we cannot choose this
2. negotiating with them that we will look into their demands later and asking them to disperse now **.positives: - as said in option 1
**negatives:
- it is just postponing the problem to another day and not the action of a good leader. - Moreover violent mob may not be in a position to negotiate. - hence this is also not a good option to follow 3. going to police *positives: -they can provide the required security and disperse the crowd -it is a proper legal measure and prosecuting the gate crashers will deter such incidents in future *negatives -as we are not favourable to police, they may not take prompt action
From ethical perspective, examine why is it important to promote prison reforms ?
Certain rights such as life, liberty, freedom are fundamental to humans. These shall not be violated except with due process of law. In this background, 1. It is unethical to subject under-trials to large period of confinement. 2. It is unethical to undermine prisons as correctional centers thereby making hardened criminals. 3. It is unethical to limit legal facilities due to poor economic status of convicts.
Some countries even provide for conjugal rights with the objective to keep the family bonds intact. Objective is smooth integration with the family and society once sentence is complete. Other reforms like psychological aid shall be promoted. However, a caveat shall be added for heinous crimes.
Prison reforms shall not be seen in isolation. They are intertwined with Police, Legal & Judicial reforms.
Hence to promote overall welfare of society, prisons reforms are important.
