with exp of 8 prelims paper 1 was alost like 2011 days ,when scoring 90 was not easy ,still those days forum named interview prep4ias used to score 116 to 120 .as well as topper scored poorly 70 to 90 range . because csat removed so 2015 ,16 paper was not on the line of upsc type. upsc usually used 50% max for mains ,this year they applied it in prelims also . it does mean more than 100 ,is good achievement but very small.numbers . generally cutoff is mean -1*std dev
i have some old upsc data where i found it ,this time std devis +/- 10 ..it means
cutoff may decrease up to 90 .,this is lower limit .as per upsc keys . no body even paper setter can speculate this gamble which number as it is trivial .91,92,93 useless. but above 95 are comfortably safe according to upsc key ,still they are inflating ,ll loose .
if u think according to your sincere effort ,you more than 90 ,you have chance . avoid market gambling ,rumors . all the best <
97 to 103 ,, people here have the habit of underestimating the cutoff each year. Each year paper is different so how can last years cutoff be taken as the gauge to measure this year's cutoff. Everyone is saying that this year paper was very tough and tricky but still they are looking cutoff from the last year's prism.
As the paper has set a new standard this year so would cutoff.
Don't underestimate the toughness of paper cutoff will also drop according to tough nature of paper.
People forget what @DrKingSchuItz said at the beginning of this thread. No discussion, only cutoff prediction. Baker k liye aur b bahot se threads hain yar...
general(according to UPSC keys) 98-100 Simple logic for an average student 2015: 60c 20w 2016: 63c 17w (same prelims intake) 2017: 57c:23w
prelims intake will remain same this year too,I guess, and even its decrease shall be compensated by CSAT. And one last factor is shankar/Vajiram key are going to see reduction of 5.33 marks and Vision by 8 marks for verbatim sourced questions like RTV/IVC/Port. And yes, competition increases but this is not a paper sourced from PT365,thus a new beginning.
PS : Last year my score - 133 This year - 113 to 115 Paper was certainly tough but for me dip in score is mainly because of lack of sleep on the previous night.
