Ok so I got a strategy that worked for me. Yesterday I studied for 6 hrs.I failed to study for more than 3 hrs earlier. By study I mean focused study---everything reaching the brain through the eyes.

Ok so my strategy: I divided my day into 2hrs blocks. I allocated 3 such blocks for studies. Each block consisted of four 25 minutes focused study followed by 5 min breaks. I took 1 hour gap between two study blocks.

I am using this strategy to cover my VISIONias prelims test series Syllabus. Let us see how far it goes.
  • @mayurasharman ..
Because you are practically doing no hard work to earn those endorphins,it is like a shortcut. A man is supposed to go out, socialise and meet potential mates of opposite sex. He needs to do the hard groundwork to gain those endorphins which give a long lasting pleasure.

Now these shortcuts like porn, narcotics, alcohol etc give you pleasure without that hard work. The energy which should have been used for constructive purposes is being diverted for shortcut pleasures.
Endorphins are means to ends, rather than being an end in itself.

Thanks for a reasoned philosophical reply. Your reply is teleological. I was looking for a more practical reply in scientific sense.

BTW in your philosophical frame of reference, what will happen to a zeta female in primitive social hierarchy who is unable to find any mate?? Is she supposed to suffer endless sexual frustration while there is a practical way to end it viz. masturbation?
In modern society, those who are denied the the luxury of time to find potential mates (eg. CSE aspirants), should be denied the Aristotelian eudamonia (happiness). Should they be??

[My comment is open ended. You can chose not to reply to it if u r busy in mains' prep. It's ok. Coz I'm myself regretting getting into it but don't want to delete what I've already typed :| ]

@mayurasharman Masturbation is not natural i.e. no animal apart from humans can masturbate. When you masturbate/have sex, dopamine is released in the brain, which is the feel good hormone. It is also released when you are happy, achieve something etc. All animals work for this exact dopamine rush. So, when you masturbate, you are artificially releasing dopamine and temporarily feeling good about it. Hence, whenever you are depressed, sad, want to achieve something, in order to get that rush, you will masturbate, dopamine will get released easily and you won't find the will to work harder for something you aspire for. Further, when you shag, the dopamine secretion is much more than say when you have sex/are happy. Thus, if you shag too much, no other simple pleasure(s) in life would give you that "rush" anymore and you will keep on going to masturbation for that desired "rush". Hence, masturbation is not a good idea if you are working for something. Let that testosterone flow, as it pushes you to get what you want.

Also, excessive masturbation leads to E.D. Got to r/nofap for more...
  • I think @DepartedMisanthrope can shed some more light on it. He cannot function properly sans alcohol now :open_mouth: :P
  • 1. Exercise.After every 45 minutes.Workout for 8-10 minutes.Play a sport.Run, lift ,catch , throw , kick, dance,walk, whatever.But move.

    3. Eat more protein and healthy fats instead of carbs.Take a multivitamin.

3.Get up early in the morning.Like really early.5am or so.Rise with the sun and sleep at 10.

4.Cut down on narcotics, alcohol, porn and people who drain your energy.

I agree with the rest of the comment completely. But what's wrong with porn ??

I'm asking seriously and objectvely. Coz AFAIK masturbation, the logical next step to porn, releases endorphins which are good for our system and cut depression.

    @GentleGiant6
Well, if you need endorphins and want to "cut" depression, try running; It is better than ploughing your hand. Trust me, I would know. It's going to be my 5th month tomorrow : running 6 kilometers everyday.

I'm a bit surprised to find intelligent adult males, many of them engineering graduates, to be suggesting against masturbation. There is no scientific proof, whatsoever, which shows any harm from normal, regular masturbation. That was the reason I was curious and asked for scientific proof against masturbation.

According to WebMD, 95% of males and 89% of females masturbate. Perhaps majority of the remaining prepare for Civil Services :D :D

Well, why dont you experiment on yourself and see how it goes. Start tonight and till mains shag everyday and keep a tab on your performance. Report on the 9th...

@RagnarDanneskjöld I hope you are not located in Delhi. Running for 6kms in prevalent environmental conditions will definitely kill you in a week!

    Yup, you are right.
Smoking 6 cigarettes a day at home is less harmful than 6 kms run outside at this time in delhi. :o

I wish i had stayed for a week at home after diwali. :/
