As a rule of thumb what is the order of preference adopted by candidates?
CISF>ITBP>BSF>CRPF or CISF>BSF>ITBP>CRPF CISF ACs get comfortable postings in cities and is not a stressful job like BSF and CRPF wherein you have to man the borders and fight naxalites.

@stardust1901 I thought you missed mentioning SSB, then I checked and realized that there are no vacancies for SSB this year.
@srinath As mentioned by @stardust1901, normally the 1st preference is CISF, and the last one is CRPF. Generally. Among the rest 2/3 (when SSB is included), it becomes more of personal choice/ opinion. My choices were CISF -> SSB -> BSF -> CRPF -> ITBP. Though I didn't appear for the PET, as it was ike 9 days before Prelims and was a 2-3 day process.
Some of the factors that people consider while deciding the choice of service ->
1. Comfort level i.e. material comfort level. Eg. CISF posting location (Airports, Powerplants etc) are relatively more comfortable. 2. Risk factor/Posting locations. Again CISF/SSB are less risk-prone compared to say CRPF. 3. Facilities and provisions. For Eg. BSF has some of the best establishment. Comparable to Army. 4. Promotional Avenues. For Eg. For SSB/ITBP, It takes around 10 years to reach the rank of Commandant, whereas the same for CRPF is around 16 years. This is based on limited observation and interaction. I may not be 100% correct, but I am almost sure.
1. What was the highest marks in 2012 CAPF (AC) exam?
2. What is the schedule of PET, Interview? In which month are they conducted? When is the final result announced?
3. Is Assistant Commandant group B officer? What is his/her career path?
According to best of my knowledge AC goes up to the rank of commandant and a few goes up to DIG rank .Higher ranks are reserved for IPS officers .
Not always! But you are 'generally' correct.
@Tintin@mahesh_jagarwal24 Agreed to a major extent. To the best of my knowledge, till recent past, the highest ACs could reach was the rank of DIG. Though things have changed in the recent times, now there are those who have reached the rank of IG. But I haven't noticed anyone going beyond IG. And yes. My information is more specific to CRPF.
Though I agree, the promotional avenues are not as bright / fast as IPS.
Upper age limit is 25? Damn! 28 would have been a better number as is the case in other central govt jobs, research assistants, etc. Are people above 25 'unfit' in some way ? I cant understand the logic behind this restriction!

Even CDS has an age limit of 23-24 years. The reason is that the demands of a CAPF job is closer to the military than it is to state police.
Is there a restriction on the number of attempts to take this exam just like UPSC CSE ?
@sheen I don't recall any restriction on the no of attempts. However, there is a age limit. Unlike UPSC CSE, the Upper Limit is 25 years.
Yess be serious about no. of attempts if you hv cleared all the phases of exam and allotted any force then you can't reappear, irrespective of ur category nd all that :-O
