Obviously, this is a very subjective query. I do understand the frustration, behind such a robust analysis of the technical, professional and socio-economic aspects of both profiles. But don't you think that you know the answer in your heart already and you're only looking for validation from strangers who may have different persona than you.
It simply finally boils down to what YOU want in your life cycle. The core point, you can ruminate on is, what makes you happy?
What others think of your job or what you think of your job?

Very aptly put There is no point in validating what one wants through some stranger Even though I myself have great admiration for Rbi grade b but still for IRS wl be up der above Rbi may be iaas too but again it's my personal opinion :-)
@Swetha Pathak I understand what you are insinuating. Maybe the guy who authored this post wasn't able to clear mains and that is why he is tilting towards RBI now, well this is human nature. But this is not the case with me, I have cleared mains and then too I am with RBI. There is nothing "angoor khatte hain" situation here. So please present some logical arguments instead of blindly following UPSC.

Beautifully put. Subconsciously, I wanted this. I wanted a validation from others. Thats all.
This is why I love this forum. The people are damn smart.
Also, yesterday I gave the RBI Grade B Interview, which was decent.
Now, I know that IAS > IFS > IPS > IRS > RBI Gr B > Other Group A Services.
Also, in the Medical board of UPSC, they said that I have partial colour blindness, so Im not eligible for any of the Uniformed posts, like IPS, IRTS, RPF etc. And I dont have any interest in IFS.
So, my doubt is, if I clear the RBI Gr B interview by mistake also, should I still prepare for Civil Services?
At the end of the day, it is IAS > IRS > Grade B.
And I have been studying so hard for the past 3 years that now Im sure getting in the Top 100 ranks with a good cadre for IAS would be impossible... Whereas getting in the Top 500 might still be possible. So I am removing IAS as an option.
The dilemma is between these two. IRS and RBI Gr B.
Should I study day and night for the next one year and try to get IRS? Or should I just concentrate on the training and career growth in RBI Gr B (If I clear it, optimistically, hopefully)
I had made a list of Pros and Cons, but I would like to have a better informed decision from this forum.
1. IRS has lots of political interference, whereas RBI has none. (Except at the Governor stage :P) 2. RBI is an amazing 5-day 9 to 5 peaceful job, with lots of family time, and a good work-life balance. IRS is very hectic. 3. RBI is in only the Capital cities of the country, and IRS is cadre based. Stuck in one state. 4. IRS has more power, social status and respect, while RBI has zero clout. 5. IRS pays more, has more perks than RBI. 6. IRS is a part of the Fiscal policy, RBI takes care of the Monetary Policy. 7. IRS works according to the whims and fancies of the Govt in power, may need to ass-lick seniors, has the usual contacts-based promotions.. RBI is autonomous. 8. RBI is specialization based. Whole life same organization. IRS varies from taxation dept till customs etc. More generalist.
Now, help me.
Should I sit and study for the next one year to get IRS or Ill happily work without any exam tensions for RBI? (If I clear it)

Haan bhai.. Sach kahaan aapne... Maybe I was bored in life, felt useless, and thats why started this discussion.. But, haan, sach kahaan.. I should clear them both, and then have this pros and cons discussion.
We can ask only those people who have cleared both Civil Services and RBI Gr B, and those who have worked both as an IRS Officer and as a RBI Officer, for perfect analysis.
Sorry to say, but there isn't any comparison at all.
The powers and perks of an IRS officer and the respect in society is way way higher than RBI grade B. I know this doesn't matter, but for the sake of comparison.
RBI grade B isn't a government service in strict sense. AFAIK, Pay commission doesn't apply for RBI. It's work is concered with Banking and is mundane and boring. IRS, though, equally boring initially, but later in your career you can find it fulfilling.
If you have economics background then RBI is a logical choice, if not, then it doesn't make sense.
IRS officer can go on deputation on general administrative services such as Directorate etc if you have sources
