@stuartLittle also please sir if u remember your answer for that impact of hinduism on women .. and if you can post it here.. tht will be great help.. what case studies you had mentioned in that. and sources for such tribal questions.. also like: "gender and customary law".. how should such questions be approached..
bhai log do concentrate on anthro but do not neglect gs and essay this time.i have a feeling anthro thoughness might be more this time.
dear u cannot command GS and essay.. but optional u can definitely command let it be tough,.. whats the harm.. in an easy paper all can do good.. but tough papers reward hard work.. so i personally want the paper be as hard as it can be.. take the bull by horns..

When all papers carry equal marks then all are equally important.. So we can't leave anythings, not even essay. But there are more chance that u can take edge over others if will perform better in all papers. 10+ marks in each paper mean u r having 70+ marks more than others. So I will suggest give equal respect to each paper. Now its upto u which is ur strength. Everyone has its own strength in particular area where u think u r capable of getting more marks.
So dnt discourage anyone to do this and that. Let leave it to person. Give freedom to urself and it will give u better reslt. This is my thinking. Everyone's view is welcome.

People shouldn't pay much heed to these sociology questions written by someone in anthropology section. In anthropology any day you will find 5 questions which can be answered by a serious aspirant. Just go and check nadeem hasnen TRIBAL INDIA you will find this elwin ghurye debate and the materlinity in ISLAM, impact of Hinduism on tribal women etc. Regarding south Indian paleoliths the simple thing is that you read various sites of various times in zone wise fashion, so out of that just write the ones you read in South zone- lower, middle and upper palaeolithic periods and features. So the difficult questions from compulsory questions is done. For rest out of 6 questions upsc will always give 3 regular questions which can be attempted by a serious aspirant. Even after that at max you will find at max one section of one question as a bit dicey. Now if you have attempted 4 and half questions of quality and one section of a question normally then nobody can stop you from scoring 250plus in anthropology at any time.
I think the person who is putting these hypothetical questions on forum must be from a coaching institute and trying to project anthropology as tough subject so that some students join coaching. The only problem is that while all study material is old, the problems of tribal India and policy development is new. So just Google 3-4 important things- 1. Forest rights act, 2006 2. PESA 3. Land acquisition act 4National tribal policy. From them you will get an idea of all tribal problems and steps by government or what we can do.
