I don't think upsc has given a restrictive syllabus. There are so many Elwin-Ghurye like debates. One cannot cover them all. This guy radhesh has posted some very scary questions. I think upsc will say that they are all from the syllabus. Don't you guys think that such questions reflect pubad like traits?
hey i have not posted any scary questions.. these are very basic questions with bit of dynamics i can post 100 more questions like these... the problem is we tend to read anthro very superficially especially the socio part .. and then find things easy while preparing but dynamic questions scare u out.... my entire preparation is like this only.. so if anthro become pub ad.. it will be wonderful.. let;s read it hard and not grumble.. its an awesome subject..
in 2005 there was a question accusation of witchcraft is outcome of strained inter-personal relations.. such questions can make one cry in exam hall if one doesn;t knw study of Azande by Pritchard, Navajo red indian by clyde cluckhohn, and other african societies practicing witchcraft..
be very prepared for dynamic questions.. anthro is not what it was year or 2 back.. it is becoming pub ad.. i think this is glimpse.. like they showed for pub ad in 2016..
1) Division of labor is a social phenonmenon and not biological phenomenon. comment 2) Law is a cultural universal. 3) the question of totemism is dead with levi strauss. 4) Communitas and social transformation as proposed by Victor Turner is a fallacious argument. 5) Neo-shamanism and debate on whether shamans can really heal.
100s of more questions i can frame in an hour.. only one should have conceptual clarity to answer them..
Every ques is related to syllabus only. So u must cover syllabus first and corelate things with it. For eg this year ques they asked about impact of hinduism on women status of central indian tribes. And we read only impact of Hinduism on tribal India or society. So these days they are asking specific things
Also south Indian palaeolithic, Erwin ghurye debate. Hardly there were ques in prev years like that. There are so many ques like that.
So I just want to say that u should keep in mind while studying that what are reading should b read in that way only I.e u must know each dimension of all things.
Every ques was from syllabus only but way of asking ques and ques pattern they are trying to shift. In that say I saw first time dynamism in anthropology which were never asked by upsc earlier.
sir, south indian paleolithic is very easy question... one should knw debate between sohanian traditionists versus madrasiaan tradionists (v d Krishnawamy and kortlayer study)...
and regarding elwin ghurye.. thts the first thing a person reads in tribal anthro.. easiest of all questions..
yaa impact of hinduism was tough to crack as i knew only 2 case study on it.. so could have been issue for me..but others were ok types..
and i believe this is a answer writing thread so people must contribute and not grumble.. so tht we can do better.. after all still there are 8 months for mains.. we can tame the subject in this much time..

M not judging difficulty of questions. M just saying diversion from normal process of asking questions. Thats it. For me all are very simple questions. Even the impact on women was. But I didn't say. If someone is prep for first time. Then type of ques posted by them particularly that one can scared aspirant. U r the exceptional Case and going good in studies. Well done But everyone needs to b look here on the thread. U should help others also in preparation.

Yep all must contribute and had lot of time to improve. No doubt in that.

sorry sir i misinterpreted your statement. and i am no exceptional case.. all people are same.. i just wanted to motivate people to come here and contribute.. i want that we people prepare so much that nothing seems dynamic there.. and i believe we can make even dynamic things static by our hard work.. and for freshers we cannot wait.. they can start reading quicker and come back and contribute.. with help of seniors like stuart little, maddog uno, arrow i feel we forum ppl can do good..
