Thanks. Yes, the subject seems deceptively enticing and I think there is not enough time left to attain mastery. The only trouble is that I have lost whatever little affinity I had for sociology and can't get myself to reopen my notes. Also, I do feel there is some use in studying economics career wise too. I had made up my mind to join JNU with economics this year, just as a safety net, and ace UPSC! Wishful thinking, it seems. I guess I will have to settle for sociology this time round and study economics with an IGNOU course this summer; it's all too confusing.
i gave this years mains with Economics, couldnt clear. i was a non- economics student. i think you will have to put a lot of effort for paper 1. it is very tough. i will leave economics this year
Abdullok, i just want to tell you , dnt get frustrated if u dnt get success in first attempt, i think instead of changing optional u can study for next atempt as u r familiar with subject it vl b easy to get good hold on subject ,u can refer standard books, i heard there are few coaching in delhi for eco optional, raus ias provide material, brilliant tutorial provide notes i think they are good

@attaboyankit I am not quite sure of this. Given the pattern of the exam this time, I have doubts if any non-DU student can comfortably attempt Paper 1. I would definitely not recommend any non-eco person to go for economics as an optional.
DU people always struggle to score well in paper 1 too much to unlearn!

This year paper1 marks surely upscaled otherwise if copy would have been checked on GS pattern getting passing marks was difficult
