i have been studying coaching notes since october 2011 but i am not confident of clearing prelim exam. i have not read any of the standard books for prelim as recommended by various websites and coaching teachers as well as seniors. i have almost studied everything once, i don't remember anything, or at least i don't remember much, i never memorized them as i cannot memorize by heart. and am completely nervous and tension in mind now am while am attending some online test for gs and csat whatever i did preparation as if now everything looking like nothing i did what shall i do............... pls suggest me am feeling about cry by attendinf test online
that happens with most ppl here.everyone is scared before prelims.even rank 1 divyadarshini did not clear prelim.then she wrked hard and evolved a method for studying. i think u shd give this attempt and judge yourself.u will actually knw then what to study and what not to study.then post questions to people who clear it.u will get clarity.and one has to work hard.there is no other/easier way.anyone who clears pt has to go through this.you are not alone in this race.
personally i think its ample time to clear both pt and mains given the time frame as i guess in the new pattern GS would test your opinions about the society... but as of now focus on PT.. laximakanth , geography and history can sail u through PT given ur CSAT stuff is decent... ATB...
I think if anyone good in CSAT (160+), he can definitely crack PT in 2 months... otherwise its very hard..... I am in the same boat brother.. had started prep last month.. I score 140+ in some CL CSAT... but failed very badly in GS (Only 25 - 30)... Please guide someone-- which are the books i must repeatedly read for GS...
@Nivir You don't make a plan of scoring 160+ in CSAT. Thats a bad plan. You have to have a plan where you at least want to score above 90+ in GS and around 120 or so in CSAT. Its not easy to score 160+ in CSAT, unless you have prepared for CAT (and actually gotten a good percentile.) and have good luck.
For a checklist for Pre preparation (GS paper ), ask these questions to yourself:-
1. Have I completed Spectrum's Modern History? 2. Have I done both NCERT's for Geography? 3. Have I revised Laxmikant Polity twice & thrice? AND Am I able to do the Polity questions given behind Laxmikant on my own, getting them all right? 4. Have I done govt schemes from PD Economy/ Economic Survey 5. Have I revised my Economy notes/ TMH Economy book? 6. Have I picked up 50 topics (Environment, S&T etc. )from previous years question and prepared those topics? 7. Am I getting a better score when I re-write the tests where I have gotten less marks?
here i agree with @Neyawn sir completely. even if you have secured good percentile say90+ in CAT there is no surety that you would be able to hit 180+ in csat why..
because the first paper will be of GS and if you are unable to score say even 40 marks then you will need 170-180+ atleast to clear prelims. what it will do is that it will put unnecessary burden before paper2 so when you will be actually attempting the exam, that 180+ figure will always be there in your mind and will not let you concentrate fully eventually you will get less marks (sometimes pressure decreases and sometimes it increases the performance). there are sstill 60 days one can hit 80+ in paper1. focus on that and keep practicing paper2. do practice a lot of RC we get some 30+ questions out of 80 from RC only. then 10q from quant which majorly from ercentage, mixtures, ratio and time and distance. practice them first. then analytic ability. that's easy when you are done with above two.
do not worry everyone is in dilemma. i am no different neither are you.
My own conservative score in Pre 2012 was:- GS............100 CSAT.......125 ============ Total.........225
My CL key, in CSAT I was getting something like 140+ and then I stopped checking hoping that I would get at least 60+ in GS, where cut off would be around 200.
