  • This year topper was an ex Googler. That means he left job at Google to work as a Civil servant.

Although I never met him personally, I met a couple of his ex colleagues at work.

I work at the same place now and I am also preparing for Civil services. You see people have diverse interests and are motivated by various values.

So for few people leaving the comfort of a good paying job and working for the nation holds more importance than others. To me personally, my motivation is this quote

"The biggest tragedy of our nation is that the best of our minds are working for the rich who inturn don't have any problem. While the poor, needy are left uncared for" - Sam Pitroda

  • Hi All,
One of my friend is going to get a job of Software Engineering at Google (with offers from Amazon/Microsoft as well) with pkg of about 12-14 lpa in hand. He needs opinion on whether to leave this job and continue to prepare for IAS.
Seniors and Selected Candidates kindly provide with your expert opinions? What is better , IAS or Software Engineering at Google?

    Thanks!
Imo... 12-14 lpa in hand... And you are comparing it with IAS....lol... Are u kidding...?
Here in IAS u fix ur pay package by your own wish... starting few years can be little dry ..... But after that....Here sky is the limit !!!
  • upsc is very diffcult and very unpredictable.engineering student are of sight that it may be like college exam where hard work=high marks , but here in upsc no correlation exist ,
besides there is no guranteee he will get IAS , or if IAS wont end up in some wild cadre, and certainly next 15-20 year of his life will be in a backward village with no electricity and political beating
sometime i think UPSC (who wont increase seats )sud have mercy on the younth of this country and reduce age to 25 with 3 attempt for all that will channel youth in some other creative thing rather wasting high time of youth in hope

i never understand this point that why UPSC civil service is the only way to serve the nation .. why not join the army or CRPF and serve the nation..but there are very few example where some one have left a high paying job to toil years for army exams. .. but yes there is post of defence secreatry that might be the case

they are the one who is like khemka sir ... who are in minuscule number... they only represent themselves...
and they anly talk about their salary
man... who will talk about anything other than salary... they will be outcasted.. from the caste called IAS... yes i feel IAS is a caste and they dont like to mingle with anyone else at marriage (not literal) level
and they fiercely fight any change that comes in their way... mind you they are synonyms of bhramins of their caste system... rest u can now infer
  • If you think IAS is had for cleare the you can go for Police jobs as well. UP Police is going to release vacancy notification for constable and SI and ASI bharti check more details on it.
