    Avoid Amazon. Rest are fine.
    agreed... Google >fb>ms>apple
I give more weightage to fb and ms over apple, due to their inter competitive invesments into various r&d... am not sure of apple investments into virtual reality, artificial intelligence etc other technologies apart from their core businesses...

I might sound bit theoretical but i have experience it in my previous job and allow me give you an insight of it.

As per Frederick-Herzbergs Motivator-Hygine Theory, there are two factors:
    a. Motivating Factor (Achievement, Interest, Engagement, Recognition, Responsibility, work, Growth) - which create a sense of job satisfaction if positive
    b. Hygiene Factor (Salary, Security, Company Policy, Working Condition, Administration, Relations) - which create a sense of dissatisfaction if negative

The above two factor are independent -

    a. Job satisfaction is opposed by no satisfaction rather than dissatisfaction, that is you might not be motivated enough to work (or not satisfied with your job) even with good hygine factor (or not having dissatisfaction), and this will lead to demotivate, decrease in efficiency, or might even end up quitting you job.

    b. hygiene factor play big role when they are absent but don;t make much deal when present

    Thus:
    a. Satisfaction + No Dissatifaction = Most Preferred Opportunity
    b. Satisfaction + Dissatisfaction = Second Most Preferred Opportunity
    c. No Satisfaction + No Dissatisfaction = On little lower side from second 2 case
    d. No Satisfaction + Dissatisfaction = Worst form of Opportunity

So in case of Google Job - the hygiene factor are good (i.e No Dissatisfaction) in current situation but the motivating factor can be know only once you are in the job. Thus are either in case 1 or 3.

Also check out the order of your desired needs on the basis of Maslow's hierarchy of needs

Lastly you have an opportunity to learn and experience new things if you let it go then you might not be able to get the same in future. So go for the new job, focus on it and enjoy learning till your satisfaction is maintained for both job and your needs.

All the very best for your future.

** adding to my previous comment

In IAS case - all 4 options are open as the motivation factor are very subjective and can be know once an individual start working and hygiene factor will depend on your current status and needs.

@Mandark : haha ... yaar koi class nahi ... bas kabhi kabhi aise hi prelims ke time pe optional bhi revise ho jaata hai :)
  • The subject of the post is too tempting for me that I cannot resist myself from answering this question :P. I used to work for Google before I decided to quit my job and try for civil services. I think it is entirely a personal choice and there is nothing right or wrong about any such decision. Personally for me, I always preferred civil services but I joined Google only for financial reasons. I did not think much about leaving the job to pursue civil services because I knew irrespective of whether I would clear the exam or not, I would not regret it. So its a decision of what the person truly wants. :)
  • I also think that it is better to get into civil services at a young age. So if one has complete passion towards civil services and has no financial obligations then I recommend that he/she must try for civils without 'trying' a job. Because I feel that the experience that one would gain at corporate companies will be of little use in the civil services.
