Basics of automobile engg , tolerance, clearance etc, pumps, turbines, refrigeration, Air conditioning, .... such practical aspects are important . But be warned that they see mechanical and start asking from core physics. Eg asked me about waves, shm , noise etc.
For those of u who are working, ur area of work is more relevant. But yes, we need to be prepared for everything

+1 I guess we should aim for selective reading of most popular areas.. because domain of mechanical is ubiquitous they can even ask about principles of robotics or satellite launching.
^ Exactly, mechanical engg is something that they perceive on a regular basis. So they are prone to ask about everyday applications rather abstract theories....
But honestly, anything can happen. They can connect engineering to physics or mix up branches. So we can only cover the most probable areas.
I didnt go through the books. I was not at all inclined to read all th at again. Instead I saw videos on YouTube channels such as'engineering explained'.
