  • RIP.

Life is beyond UPSC. We unfortunately get obsessed with this over hyped exam/IAS/IPS tag due to our colonial mindset of society.
Every job is direct/indirect service to the nation which is fortunately recognized in western modernized countries, but in India we have different culture having egoistic inflated attitude towards few types of jobs and getting admission to institutions like IITs and IIMs.

GOD, please let it be last mishappening for student community.

Please don't make UPSC as ultimate goal of your life.

RIP.....Hope his soul rest in peace....Extemely tragic moment for his family..... UPSC is way too overrated exam and it's toughness level is solely due to limited seats as compared to other exams like CAT where u have 17 IIM and other tier -2 colleges,GATE where u can at least get M-Tech if not a PSU etc.The situation become complicated when the toppers are treated as some type of demi god by society while the rest are treated as shit .
    Review of Indian bureaucracy- https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-16523672
So called Toppers with even as high as AIR-1:-https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/lucknow/A-topper-who-couldnt-remain-at-No-1/articleshow/13089115.cms
Aspirants should stop taking it as a matter of life and death. The only thing we can do is to give our best but results may go either way because of limited seats. In no way success or failure in UPSC can decide one's self worth.

UPSC's immense popularity is due to lack of lucrative options in other fields.

An advice to all fellow aspirants

ASK yourself WHY you wanna do it.

    A. If you are doing it for money, don't do it
    B. if you are doing it for fame, don't
    C. If you are doing it coz papaji khush ho jayenge, don't do it
    D. Ask, How you wanna do it? Is civils the only way? Probably not. If Not, then prioritize.

In my childhood, I have suffered a lot for decisions that weren't my own. Speak up. Don't fear. If you think UPSC isn't for you do something else.

Its very important to liberate yourself and love the thing you want to do or will do. If not, your sole motivation will be money. And see what it has done to people. We have journos like Arnab Goswami. Literate? Yes. Qualified? Yes. Marks? Yes. But does he have ANY F RESPECT FOR HIS PROFESSION. NO. BLOODY NO.

Tbh, for me this journey hasn't been the easiest. This was the job I rated and hated the absolute Most till 2013, but all of a sudden things were to change. Yes, I hated the corruption, the high handed attitude they showed. (My Grandfather, mothers side himself was a State Civils man).

But when Life came to me, as it had to, I was forced to make decisions. I can't share stories here, as it would violate my anonymity, but, I can tell you certain incidents happened, and they weren't personal.

Its time for us, fellow aspirants, the parents, to give each other the Realisation that ALL OF US WILL FAIL. FAILURE ISNT A CRIME. Our education systems only glorify success. But is it so quintessentially important to be Successful? That although we might FAIL in a particular XYZ venture, that doesn't mean our lives are unusually empty. Naah, none of it. Sometimes you will fail, for no fault of your own. I remember the time when Color Blindness got me out of ... I never knew it till then

Be HAPPY and don't Regret the decisions you took at the very first place. 5th attempt or 6th, this Life isn't any bed of roses. But you can always be HAPPY.

Invest, some time in Human Relations. That's the root cause of depression. If you think you aren't sociable enough, write. Use leud language, use foul words, vent out your frustration. Speak with your parents. Speak with your gf. They do LOVE you for whatever you are.

Do Invest some time in Introspection, in Questioning. I have always said, NOBODY WINS A RAT RACE. THAT WHO WINS A RAT RACE IS ALSO A RAT.

LIBERATE YOURSELF. SEE THE SUN. SEE THE NIGHT SKY. SING, DANCE, WRITE DO WHATEVER YOU WANT. INVENT YOURSELF. AND REINVENT.

IF anybody in this World has a solution of your problems, its you. None else. It's you. Just you. Only you.
  • Hope modi increases no of vacancies in 2019. Election jindabad!
  • Hope modi increases no of vacancies in 2019. Election jindabad!
    Haha. In your daydreams
  • Breaking The Myth:

I am now 2 years seeing bureaucracy from very close. I am a Class 1 Officer in a State Government. Given UPSC 4 times , failed UPSC Mains 4 times. These are my following observation which might help you know the other side of the famed bureaucracy and break it's golden image:

Disclaimer: This is written from a point of view that along with my allegiance to the duty and pursuit for greater pubic good, i am also thinking about my growth as human. Those who firmly believes that bureaucrat is only for the public, kindly skip this note. I am only telling what i have observed in majority of cases.

    1. IImmense Pressure: Pressure to perform and keep Political masters happy, believe me 90% of officers do so and their ethics die daily a slow death. In my view partisanship do creep in and people tend to themselves break this social fabric.
    2. Family life: Close to Zero in some cases, You are on duty 24X7, can't leave station without any permission. Sometimes feel like a bonded labor.
    3. Peanuts for Salary: No proper evaluation of the work done, comparing your friends in private sector you will feel sooner or later the gap in life styles you are having. You are cloaking in much more time and getting no appreciation, no reward.
    4. Lost Charm: Civil Servant don't have that BabuShahi now, no discretion , immense pressure from groups like NGOs etc which most of the time are driven by nefarious agendas. You show yourself upright but inside you know the reality of compromises you do daily.
    5. Digital Onslaught I am a pro technology guy, but the way everything governance is changing these days is appalling. First of all i recognize that technology has brought positive changes in millions of life and continuous strives should be made to improve upon it. But these days bureaucracy is being maintained through Whatsapp, all reporting on spot complaints, pressure to reply even after office hours etc. Problem is that their is no infrastructure and support staff to do so. But then you are pressurized to work your ass in this scenario.
    6. Going Private Pressure is to turn bureaucracy into corporate style. Daily meetings, elaborated PR campaigns, presentable offices etc. But the problem is Zero compensation for change in your style of working neither in monetary or support structure.

I know these points are random , you may not agree but my only intention is to tell you that it's not so difficult to leave this rat-race. This exam is no life-death. Many IAS i have met tell me how useless it becomes after sometime. People can do more batter things in their life, believe me it's just an exam!!!!
