@Mandark with increasing importance of gs.. coaching institutes will flourish more.. its not goin to help rural poor in anyway.. exams toh likhna hi padega.. with or wthout csat.. removal of csat is neither going to favor rural poor nor is goin to get rid of coachin institutes which r supposed to be the mainstay of urban techies.. basically no big diff to d rural poor.. cause those who cud afford csat coachin n flourish earlier will be able to afford double gs coachin too n perform better while the rural poors r gna stay at just the same level.. the real rural poors stay at square one..
This time in prelims we ( people good at csat) will have to work hard for prelims .
This change in scheme of exam has worried me a little but at the same time filled me with more energy and helped me get out of the depression of mains failure and I have started studying now.
Change is always better for some and worse for some others . But those who adapt survive.
Some popular arguments in favour of CSAT - Arg1- Having only GS with only 200 marks would make the prelims more of a luck Arg2- Aptitute is also required for a civil servant Arg3-The person expecting to be a DM must be able to argue and comprehend with at least a peon or constable who got their jobs after clearning basic comprehension, logic, english etc
These arguments are TRUE & VALID but I DON'T SUPPORT 'FIGHTING TO BRING CSAT BACK'
It would actually be interfering with UPSC's and Government's decisions, Althought it happened in the past and in present too, but in my view The aspirants are NONE - whom the UPSC and Government should consult before deciding the structure & plan of an eximanation.
The ONLY THING that i support and which i think MUST BE THE MAIN ARGUMENT for Any to-be-filed petition (if any), is -
It is the sole decision of UPSC and governmet - which papers they want in the examination with whatever syllabus. But till before 1 year, when lacs of candidtes left their jobs / abandoned their plans for onsite or promotions - because the syllabus was having CSAT in it (definitely ANY aspirant would plan to take ANY exam - ONLY WHEN HE SEES SOME POSSIBILITY OF GETTING HIM / HER selected.
If government HAD to make CSAT qualifying - it had to be notified MUCH BEFORE and NOT NOW. as it is adversly affecting the chances of getting selected for lacs of candidates who put their 4-5 months perparation into CSAT (as questions in it are much more predicted than the GS questions - Same ofr any Engineer, MBA, LAW or Humanities Graduate)
If government wants to go with 'Qualifying CSAT' - All the people who are sitting in exam this year - MUST BE GIVEN ONE EXTRA ATTEMPT (as is being done for 2011 candidates)
In my view this should be the only demand of a petition.
@siesta fiesta - true. UPSC is nothing but a typical bureaucratic setup. They should just junk their GS4 paper. It's the height of hypocrisy. But alas, whether the game(or game setter) is fair or not, we have to play it. Rural candidates suffered before, they'll suffer still and they'll keep suffering in future. Such is the state of our country.
@kumar_deepak3265 - Jiske paas kuch nhin hota, uske paas bahana hota hai. Chahe woh anti CSAT wale ho ya pro CSAT. Log yeh bhool jate hain ki "garajne wale badal baraste nhin". Sadko pe baithke ya forum pe aake halla karne se kuch nhin hoga. Aaj CSAT hataya hai, kal optional hatayenge phir koi aur change karenge. Change is the only constant. Jinhe yeh pata hai woh ghar pe baithke padh rahe hain. Jinhe politics mein jana hai...woh sadak pe jate hain :P Interview ho gaya?
nahi bhai 22nd ko hai. Those who think removing CSAT will lessen chances for engineers will definitely loose game again. It could have only favored them if announcement would have come in july with 3 month to go(they complete optional in that time) i don't think its problem for anyone. It would have been better if CSAT removed completely and 2 paper of gs 200 marks each but let's play game with their rule
Idiots blaming the government's political ambitions for the change. Have any of you read UPSC's Nigvekar Committee report? It clearly reports in its findings that CSAT favoured a particular subset of students (urban and science/technical) and was responsible for people poor at GS writing Mains.
And the most absurd argument is that humanities people are at an advantage because they come pre-prepared in History, Geography etc. This is simply a lack of understanding of how BA education works. How is a Philosophy graduate any better at History or Geography than an engineer? And don't science/engineering students have an advantage themselves in Prelims in the General Science questions?
@GabbarIsBack Guess you know more than Mr Nigvekar about the impact of CSAT on rural students? And your assertion about rural candidates facing difficulty in Mains is absurd. Most of them never went beyond the Prelims stage after introduction of CSAT with students from urban areas (the entire CL junta) hogging up all the seats with high marks in Aptitude.
@All Don't waste time here. Start studying for GS. It looks stupid when some of you say that we don't care, we will see who clears Prelims, engineers will still rock, and then keep creating one thread after another cribbing about CSAT.
It look like your c sat is good So long passage, how did you manage to write that
@agent_upsc csat is my strength.. But that doesn't mean I m poor in Gs. csat makes my probability of getting through stronger like removal of csat makes it stronger for u. And I belong to rural India. But I worked hard to make my apti strong. Not like u.. that won't work for improvement but will use online forums to demean people w/o knowing anything. So study hard Mr agent upsc.. else this time also u will flunk and protest for next 3 yrs for removal of gs From exam.. and free entry to mains for ppl like u..
@victoria u need not tell me i already clear prelims in your csat era.. dont bother about me.... make sure u dont flunk this time ...
) i am not talking about people who simply tell they are rural candidate.. rural candidates are those who dont even have internet facilty to argue with me like this.. and those who struggle to speak english as they did much of their education in rural languages..... why should i ask to remove gs when i am strong in it... ur reasoning skill are gone with csat ) dont cry .. make urself strong in gs.. its not csat where u can master the subject in 2 to 3 months )
