though ur query is directed to @Neyawn... yet, Please read complete Dutta-Chatterjee with some additions from CDSharma.
CDSharma topics on a macro level which are not present in Dutta-Chatterjee:
    1. Criticism of all the philosophies by shankara.
    2. Aurobindo,

PS: If you've enough time - then one reading of both books is advised. then you'll understand different ways in which a single philosophy is explained. Need not mug up it all, but that'd enlighten. sometimes UPSC asks a new topic which is explained in one book but not in the other (Like post-shankara asked in 2013). at such times you'll be able to recall such topics even from ur faint memory.

@neyawn bro is it possible to finish the subject in 100 days , if studied 3 hrs a day + 2 hrs coaching (mitra or patanjali ) ? as we all are racing against the time so want to know , whether it would suffice or will it take any longer ?
    :)

Paper 2 can be done araam se, after Prelims also.
Philo 2 - is the most tricky part. It appears that it can be done araam se, but finally scoring marks in P2 is more challenging than P1. Often freshers get better marks bcoz of their innovative approach, but there is no definite pattern unlike P1 where one gets good marks for sure if he gets the basics right. No offences meant, just an opinion.

Offence not taken Bhai. I know its tricky to score marks in P2 Philosophy. But the point is that, it requires creativity, not number of hours. As far as completing P2 is concerned, it can be done in a short period. Getting super duper marks? No predictability and no idea.

Any reviews about Dr Ambuj Shirvastava Sirs classes?.Of late they have become quite popular it seems .
  • I went to mitra' s ias and they said they will finish the course in 2 mnths. While Patanjali is saying 110 days. Is it possible? will they rush through?

If someone took classes there, please tell.

i attended Ambuj Sir's seminar once.. i was not impressed mainly due to
    1. routine habit of teachers of praising oneself (less teaching more preaching).
    2. he did not discuss even a single topic of philosophy, on how he would cover any sample topic. Mitra Sir and Dharmendra Sir both cover at least one topic to give a glimpse of how a typical class would be taken.
    3. People claim that he had been associated with Philo for past 25 years, but he typically looked just 32-35 yrs old.. If I'm wrong he might be 40 at max. that means - he must be associated with philo since age of 15 at least. Doesn't sound too realistic !!

    Yet, some positives:
    1. I liked his test series pattern - you are evaluated on various aspects such as content, context, presentation, conclusion, etc. apart from total marks and question-wise marks - he also gives you an avg score (say out of 10) on how good you are w.r.t. all these aspects. Example - if you are good in content you might get 7 out of 10, but if not good in conclusions you might get just 2 or 3 out of 10. This style of answer writing will definitely help students. (PS: I did not join it bcoz I thought I was running out of time and needed to focus on content before anything else. instead i took personal guidance from Mitra Sir who took care to check my answers just for goodwill)

2.Also, on another aspect i found Ambuj Sir to be good - I told him in the seminar that I've problems in some philosophers like Strawson only. he said - "ek aadh topic mein problem mein problem hai to aise hi aa jana yaar, batch join mat karo, reception pe pata kar lena ki ye topic kab padhayenge, aur aa jana" (translation - If you have problem in just 1 or 2 topics, then dont join my classes, just attend the relevant session for free). So, i feel he's a good human being before being a teacher; although some people might like it to interpret it this way - "before commercial success every teacher talks like that to generate a goodwill".

just my experience - please meet him once and draw your conclusion yourself.

plus - i can see Ambuj sir's advt where he's giving 5 free sessions to all.. why not try it once.!! 5 sessions are pretty enough to find out how good a teacher is...
  • @Doga : Thanks a ton Mx.
