@woman : well, the paper was like it would have helped people with history optional a lot. The quality and pattern was really not upto the mark actually, nothing from art and culture, not much from current affairs related stuff(the hallmark of UPSC). It seemed more like a board exam actually. But yea score of 100+ is remarkable.
Thing is my friend with History optional is finding it easier to prep. for paper 1, all he is studying for synergy is history while I have to devout 50% of my time to my optional. I am hoping to kick some ass in paper 2 and 3. Paper 4 is essentially English paper.

Haha .. this is just a part of paper 1 as far as I could make out from the questions posted by someone on the forum. It is expected to benefit people with history and geography as optional. The trick is to be in top 200 in all the tests. Consistency is the key. And obviously, UPSC is an altogether different matter. Plus there are optionals and essay too. So many things matter. No one should be disappointed with his or her score in a single test.
@woman Don't get discouraged by people getting 100+ in those tests. I got 120 in that world cum post independence India history test but I wrote the test for 4 hours at their center. Obviously I can't repeat that feat in the exam hall where we have to finish in 3 hours. Many of my friends take the test home and read the material before answering(what they get by doing that is incomprehensible). A score of 80+ in all tests is very very good.
Also in our test they asked unification of Italy and unification of Germany in the same question as two separete sub-parts. So I thought they meant the unification of nineteenth century. Of course, there's no way of being sure.
@woman : I could care less about their sores and rankings. Last year I barely scored 80-100+ score in 2-3 tests in VisionIAS. I scored better than average in UPSC. The thing is when I thought I had written a remarkably good answers(specially in topics I am good in), they gave me 7-8/20 etc score and commented to add some more useless points according to their model answers(Each and every answer sheet had the comment "work on content, you can score very good!"). Nah, I will write what I feel about the topic basing them on facts. On the other hand when I wrote absolute bullshit in general questions, they awarded me best scores for that particular question(I vaguely remember some questions about lack of transparency, accountabiity in NGOS, they don't practice what they preach etc crap). Not saying it did not help me, it did immensely help me but not in the sense that I thought it would. I learnt I need to cover more topics to write better crap, I learnt that attempting more fetches more marks in such tight checking scheme etc etc. But absolute score and ranks matter less and less, specially in VISIONIAS where people write for 4-5 hours.
@desuAdeeb I am not getting discouraged. I have written a test at vision centre once in ORN. There were 5 people who were writing when I entered. I started, finished and stood up. 4 of them were still writing. I wanted to check how long would they write. So I submitted the paper, went down to a book shop, window shopped for 15 mins and came back. And 3 of them were still engrossed. One girl had just gotten up. So I know that vision is not that reflective of where one's performance is. But synergy, my friend said calls everyone in slots and everyone writes for ~3 hours. If people score good there, they must be good. But again, I am not writing synergy so I can't compare myself. All I can do is to be content with vision.
