Can someone please answer this? How do tropical cyclonic disturbances originating in the Bay of Begal affect the Indian monsoon? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  • During South-west monsoon many low pressure systems develop in the bay of bengal and travel west or North-west along the monsoon trough . Not all these monsoon depressions are able to reach their maximum intensity to be called as tropical cyclones . rainfall over north india to a large extent depends upon the frequency ,intensity and direction of these depressions .
  • tropical cyclones play a critical role in strengthening the monsoon and distribution of moisture and heat. as we know the due to excessive heating of ocean water a low pressure system develop at that place because the heat of ocean water transfer to air above it which leads to ascending of warm air and creation of low pressure system. this low pressure system attracts cool air with moisture from all nearby high pressure area to fill the low pressure area. so you see here tropical cyclone is collecting moisture and heat at one place from a large area of ocean. now when it start moving it takes all its heat, moisture with itself and when it reach the coast the low pressure system in the centre become weak and so the high pressure clouds of eyewall and also clouds of outer layer start dispersing to other relatively lower pressure area of the surrounding. so here the heat and moisture and clouds got collected, transferred and distributed due to tropical storms.
    now due to coriolis force the winds have tendency to deflect to itsright. same force helps in deflecting some cyclones towards WB, NE india and myanmar. so again distribution process. they speedup the process of distribution and provide fuel in form of moisture. so i think they play important role. i might be wrong but at the moment this is the only thing which came to my mind. not much in internet and even in khullar about this.

    What is the difference between the nature of floods that occur in western India and eastern India?

    Western floods are mostly flash floods caused by sudden increase in precipitation (uttarakhand disaster) while Eastern floods are due to overflow in river channel or shifting of channels caused by high deposition of sediments (kosi in bihar). This is the only difference I see. Anything else?

    above statement is in comparison to roads
  • It means that since the coverage of railways is lesser as compared to the roadways, the movement of freight and material is also limited (in comparison) and hence cannot meet the massive needs of developing countries. Moreover, there are inherent delays in freight movements such as lower priority in rail traffic, etc. making the costs considerably high.
  • Kindly elucidate following concepts. I am getting confused each time I read NCERT.

    2) Swamp , Marshes, wetlands

    i hope you have prior knowledge of Coriolis force. so now Figure shows an air mass moving from high pressure to low pressure under the pressure gradient force in the northern hemisphere. As the air mass starts to move, it is deflected to the right by the Coriolis force. The Coriolis force is greater at higher latitudes and smaller near the equator. The deflection increases until the Coriolis force is balanced by the pressure gradient force. At this point, the wind will be blowing parallel to the isobars. When this happens, the wind is referred to as the "geostrophic wind"

    Wetlands is a general umbrella concept. A wetland with grasses and weed is a marsh. A wetland with trees and bushes is a swamp. Therefore, by simple deduction, marshes are found at higher latitudes and altitudes whereas swamps are common in the tropical and sub-tropical belts. It's that simple @MisfitMedico . Hope you'll not forget it now. :)
